Can we have a comprehensive guide for MarketPress with the basics on theming and extending MarketPress, as well as providing some reference for its functions, hooks and filter ? It will help the users to understand how MarketPress works in the background, and makes theming and development task (by ourselves) more fun.

Any plans or a release date for the guide?
I need to implement a number of features, basically needed just because I am based in the EU, and would like to do the implementations in a way that will make it easy when you upgrade the plugin to keep my modifications working.

We're working on it. What specific topics are you looking for? I know Riyaku mentioned themeing and we do have a file within MarketPress that describes the available functions.
You can read up on that by looking in your download for the following:

Thanks for the feedback, it is something we aim to get done within 2012. We will be looking to improve documentation on everything we have here.
As you can appreciate this is no small task with so many plugins and themes available.

Any news on the "Codex"?
Any pointers to good guides/tutorials or some examples on extending Marketpress?
