Hello Everyone, I currently have a need in Marketpress to be able to take a deposit and or break a product into multiple payments. I'm sure there is a way using separate plugins, however I'm trying to consolidate all of my ordering and payments into one program.
So in my case, for wedding services I require either a percentage or a flat price retainer to book and confirm the date. Then I usually allow the client to pay half of the remaining balance 30 days prior and the final balance 14 days before the wedding or event date.
If anyone else thinks this would be a useful feature please +1 0r +100.
Hopefully @Aaron had a great vacation and will see the value of this and we can make Marketpress even more appealing to the masses.
I appreciate any and all votes!

Greetings Dean,
Thanks for bringing this up, it certainly sounds like a useful customization to the plugin.
Unfortunately, it is not currently available but we would love to put it into consideration for future development, I will also let Aaron know of the request.
You can now make plugin and feature requests here:
http://wpmudev.uservoice.com/
The more popular a request is and the more votes it gets, the more likely it will be considered.
It might have already been suggested. It is worth a quick search to add your votes before submitting a new suggestion.
Alternatively, you could see if there's a developer available at wpmu jobs who could get onto it right this minute, but we're aiming to get you sorted ourselves.
Cheers, Joe :-)

Interesting idea. I don't see us adding this anytime soon though, as it would be a huge undertaking and it's the first I recall a request for.
Also condidering your use case, I would think our Events+ or upcoming bookings version plugins might be a better fit. Though I don't think they have partial payments.

Does anyone know if there has been any progress on this subject? We have the same need. In our case it's a deposit, then final payment prior to shipping.
If MP doesn't have a solution does anyone have any other ideas on other plugins or payment options which might work?
Thanks

Greetings ansarico,
Thank you for your question and indeed if I wanted to do this I would use the external links function to a pre-made PayPal stored button that had the payment preferences I desired - they even offer financing to credit worthy customers!
Thank you for being a WPMU DEV Community Member and have a GREAT weekend!

Thanks Joe,
I haven't had the chance to try this yet, maybe some of our PayPal experts can help.
In reading some of the PayPal documentation they talk about a couple of different selling options. One is a "sale" and the other an "order". The "sale" is just that, a typical give me your money, I'll give you my product transaction. But the "order" is more what we all seem to be looking for, accept a down payment to start the sale and then at another time of our choice receive the additional payment. In our case this would be just what we want since we provide custom production work requiring a down payment with final payment upon completion.
Authorize.net was offering this option for awhile but not in a PCI compliant platform and it was requiring some serious programming efforts to use it. Hopefully it's available with PayPal. Anyone have any more information or has anyone tried it?
Thanks

I know that you can capture payment info from a customer to bill at a later time, however that will require custom coding. The WPMU Fundraising plugin works something like this.
The part about splitting the payment may not be supported though, rather you may need to create two separate charges.

Greetings ansarico,
Thank you for the additional input and though you did not mention the time frame between start and finish of the job - also on the PayPal side using the same method I described above using an external link - have it take them to a "trial" payment which is indeed the "deposit" so to speak and then a month or whatever the time frame may be you have them make the payoff?
Otherwise some kind of heavy duty custom coding is going to be required.
Alternatively, you could see if there's a developer available at wpmu jobs who could get onto it.
