Hiya,
First off, welcome to WPMU DEV :D
Are you referring to the ability to let folks checkout without going to paypal to log in? If so, that is only available via the PayPal Pro Gateway. This is not (yet) supporter by MarketPress, though we've just run a poll to see what gateways folks would want and you may want to chime in there: http://wpmu.org/which-payment-gateways-do-you-want-marketpress-to-support/
I'll try to be clearer. After choosing Paypal as the method of payment, the customers are transferred to Paypal's site with the amount.
Right now there are only 2 options for people:
- Sign into Paypal to pay
- Create a Paypal account to pay
There should be a 3rd option that is to use Paypal as a guest. This means that the customer can still use a credit card without having a Paypal account.
I would think so too, but it isn't working.
I've asked Paypal and they told me that the issue is with the 3rd party plugin, because all the correct options are enabled on their side.

Hiya,
I'll ask the developer to respond to this one. It's not something we've provided before so would probably need to be an enhancement to the gateway - or re-writing the gateway to include a 'guest' option.
I ended up hiring someone to build me a gateway for this issue.
I'm still using Marketpress, but not with Paypal express anymore, it uses Paypal Adaptive Payments
How does it work when people build extensions to the WPMU extensions? do people submit to repository? do you look into incorporating them into future versions? etc...

konfidi, this is built into the PayPal Express gateway. I'm not sure why you are not seeing the option to pay without creating an account... Works for me.

Here is a screenshot of the paypal screen that should show. Note that the gateway even sends the right flags to show the guest checkout option as the default.

I wish we could help but it's definitely on PayPals side. They are known for doing stuff like this with no warning for fraud protection and support never knows anything. I'm guessing they check your ip and require a PayPal account for China.
I have a client with a Thailand PayPal account and they started blocking all guest checkouts from non Thai credit cards.
I know that PayPal does things like that for security, I've had issues before because I travel a lot.
Thanks for developing the plugin anyways.
And if you want to expand Marketpress to allow for Paypal Adaptive Payments, I've already developed a gateway for it. I have guest accounts now from China, so it's not a problem for me anymore.
I also have other suggestions for the plugin for an international audience if you are interested.

Is this not supported?

I don't know either why this is happening.
When I called Paypal, they also told me that they could see the Guest option on my website, but I still couldn't.
It could have something to do with me being based in China. Also, almost all of our customers buy from China.
I have a test website where the changes have not been made and that is still generating the no guest login if you want to have a look.
You can contact me by email if you want to continue discussing this.

Hiya James,
You can send it as an attachment via email to contact [at] icsub [dot] com - or directly to aaron by replacing contact with aaron.
We've taken submissions for our plugins several times and are working to make the process a bit easier for community contributions.
Thanks!
