I just set up 2.9 on a clean install of mu. Everything appeared to run smoothly. After the move I tried to add a new blog. After clicking on the link to activate there is no user name displayed but the password is displayed. No need for concern just yet. I am going to double check my configurations and try a few more installs. Chances are it's user error. I'll keep you posted.
As I suspected, it was a bone head user error that caused the problem. Even though my error is embarrassing, I think that I need to let everyone know so that they don't make the same mistake or think that the program doesn't work.
The problem, as has been stated in many, many postings, was related to the settings in the db-config.php. After taking great care in creating the database and adjusting the config I found out that I had misspelled (yes, it was a misspelling...) my global db.
As Andrew has said many, many times, check your db-config. I am going to do some more testing but right now all seems to be well.
