Hi guys,
I am looking into building a site where people can post and search for rides (ride sharing) and am currently looking into how to best structure it.
So far I think I should go with a custom post type called rides and add some custom taxonomies like: from, to, day and date of departure
but I am unsure how to best add info for number of available seats and intermediate destinations on the route. I.e. lets say someone posts that he is going from A to B via C and D - now I'd like for a search for departing from A with destination C to also find the post above going from A to B via C and D.
Any ideas so far on how to structure this?
Apart from this, I need members Name, Surname, age, email and phone number as well as a member rating system. I guess I'll add buddypress to add a bit of a social layer to it, the rating is easy just need to sort out the basic structuring as explained above.

Hiya Ovidiu,
Sounds like you may need a proper events/booking plugin to handle that. BuddyPress is probably the best solution for member profiles - and you can turn off the components you're not particularly interested in.
We are working on an Events/Booking plugin and had hoped to already have it released. It's coming along and will be out as soon as possible.
Depending on the distance of the rides it might also be cool to use our Maps plugin to show the routes available visually. You can probably even create a 'global' map that folks can click on separate trips to go to that custom post type and read more about it.
I thought about custom post types rather than events and bookings since after checking a few similar sites from different countries I realized a few things:
- you try to stay out of the monetization part, no fees (except for a tiny membership fee maybe provided to "gold" members), nothing on our side. Don't get involved in the transactions, just offer the platform and try other sources of monetization. Kinda of comparing Ebay with Gumtree - one charges fees and transactions are monitored and pass through them, the other one only facilitates, aka brings two sides together and leaves the details to them.
- nobody bothers to update the posted info, people post when and where they are going and the number of available seats, nobody's coming back and marking it as fully booked since after the date/time of the ride has past, nobody is interested in it anymore

That's my ideas. Good luck with it!
