Does anyone know if there is a way to clone one of the template blogs automatically when a user signs up themselves?
So, if they use the signup page, it will automatically clone one of my templates I choose?

mmm there is another thread about this one.
No unfortunatly it does not work this way. You can use the template for blog creation in the admin, not on signup.
Addig again a +1 for this one :)

It should apply the default template on signup already. You cant let them choose which one on signup though.

Hmmm, I thought the New Blog Template did create when a new user did sign up:

If not, then yes, +1 for that.

+1 from me too - I think that'd be a great addition to the next release of this plugin.

Actually, I'm using it exactly as described in the original post here:
If you set one of your templates to "default" then it becomes the one used by a new blog from wp-signup.php
Now, if you're wanting to allow someone to choose one of your template blogs from signup... that isn't supported (yet?).

Exactly what I just said masonjames! This is already a built in feature!

Well, +1 for already being a built in feature! :D

Thanks for the help guys. I didn't know that you could make it clone your default template. I will check it out. That is all I need, but, yea the additional feature would be great to have.
Thanks again.

Hello,
I've installed the New Blog Template, created a Blog Template and assigned it as the default template. When I add new blog via Site Admin > Blog it does replicate the Template I built. When I let the user signup for themselve it doesn't replicate the template I created. Any help would be appreciated. I'm currently using Wordpress 3.01
Thanks

@roblesmiguel99 You can only use the new Blog template as a Super Admin user via Super Admin > Blogs. When you go to create the blog you need to select the template you want to use from the drop down menu list next to template below Add Blog on Super Admin > Blogs.
If you refer to the bottom section on the Installation page here http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/new-blog-template/installation/ you will see what I mean,
*Edit* This plugin has been updated since the information on this post. The New Blog Template WILL create a new site for users as long as the Template is set to "default." Thanks! :D

but according to @masonjames and @Aaron it should work. I don't want the user to have an option of what template to use. I just want the new user to clone the template when they create their site through the signup process.
Thanks

@roblesmiguel99
Hiya! and welcome to WPMU DEV!
Let's take a look at this. wp-signup.php should definitely be using the default template. :D
As long as the template is set to be "default" it should be used even when users sign themselves up. The fact that it works from the admin area makes me think something is interfering during the normal signup procedure.
Are you using any other plugins during sign up? Perhaps a blog default plugin? Something must be causing an issue here. Also, could you check your server's error logs and see if there's anything there?
Out of curiousity, what is a new user presented with? The blank twenty-ten theme?
Last thought: Just make sure all the appropriate boxes are checked in the template. I'm sure you've taken care of this, but let's just verify it.
Thanks!

After someone has created their site through the Sign up process, they get a default Twenty-Ten theme site with the homepage set as a blog post and all the links on the sidebar that I have removed in the template. The template.jpg is the blog template and the Default Twenty-ten.jpg is what they get when they go through the sign up process. I have deleted all plugins except for the New Blog Template plugin.

@roblesmiguel99 The New Blog Template plugin http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/new-blog-template/ is definitely designed ony to be used via Super Admin > Sites as per the instrucitons on the installation page - http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/new-blog-template/installation/
If you go to Super Admin > Sites and create a Sites using a template you will see what I mean.
The New Blog template is really good if you want to set up a site that you can use as a copy to create other sites where you have set up all the desired pages with content, specific posts, the theme, the custom header, and even set users.
The option @masonjames is providing means you can create a theme that has preset content and look that you want so it can be used with all sites on signup. For example, that is how we do it on Edublogs with the widgets in the sidebar. Here's an example http://ie31test.edublogs.org/

OK I'm officially confused about this now? :(
If I set up a template with, lets say:
5 pages,
6 posts,
a static homepage (one of the 5 pages),
2 active plugins,
a cool theme with
- some options switched on (background colour for example),
- some switched off (maybe 2 sidebars rather than 1),
....and a couple of cool widgets
THEN set this to DEFAULT will it or will it not be copied 1:1 when a new user signs up?
Or will it miss some of this stuff out?

@Michael Kimb Jones and @roblesmiguel99 My apologes, the default feature was added after the documentation I wrote. The original version of this plugin only allowed you to use the new blog default templates in Super Admin > Sites. @masonjames and I did some futther testing to identify the issue,
To use it with your sign up page you need to go to Super Admin > Blog Templates. Create your New Blog template and then click on Make Default. When the user signs up for a new site it will be created using your default template.
I'm now updating the instructions on http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/new-blog-template/installation/
Apologies again and looks like I need to pay the chocolate penatly.

Awesome :) this is going to save me a LOAD of work on my current project. THANKS SUE :)
Mmmm, chocolate - is that a British Dairy Milk bar you have in that avatar?

@Michael Kimb Jones Glad it helped and really sorry about it :(
Close :) That is an Australian Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate bar in my hand. I was at a BarCamp and my girlfriend turned up to bring me the essential items to maintain energy for the day. Cadbury chocolate and a Coca Cola :)

FYI everyone - I've just tested this out and it works as described. Theme options, widgets, pages etc all copied over. Just what I needed :)

Awesome Michael! Glad it's a good solution for ya. I've used in on a few sites as well and love it! :D

Hey everyone,
All my content, menu's etc is copying over just fine but when I go into the dashboard of the new site I can't edit anything? I can't edit posts or pages? The content WYSIWYG doesn't even show up.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks

Hello,
Do you have any idea on when this option will be available (New Blog Template From User Signup) ? If it's not this month I'll stop my subscription and renew it when the option will be out.
Is that difficult to copy that php code in order to appear in the user signup ?
Thanks for your support.

@madmax - it works. I use it, others do. if you read the entire thread, you will get to know that the template defined as default in New Blog Template is applied on User Signup.
Edit/addition: @madmax, in case you request the possibility to choose which template should be applied, then that's something I also would like to have!! I just +1ed the feature in a different thread and realized maybe that's what you are referring to.

I have the default blog template working properly at sign-up; however, I also have Blog Types, would it be a new feature to have a different default for each blog type?
Member (joined April 2011) Likes (0)
@Michel Mosca - The second paragraph is what I would need, I have a multisite where people would signup for a blog and where they could choose their favorite theme. At the beginning I thought this plugin was meant for that and then understood it's only for the admin.
@Moderators and forum members - Is there anybody good enough in php and willing to add the dropdown box at signup instead of waiting for a new release ?
Thanks for your time.

I'd like to +1 this topic thread. I could really use this soon. Is there a time table for this? Is there anything else I could do to encourage the progress on this?

The offer of @opportunex in this thread looks like a good start. Hope the @dev-team is responsive...

+1 @ebrown suggestion for blog templates for different blog types. This would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to +1 this again because I still need it and I don't want this to get lost in the shuffle. Squeaky wheel gets the grease right?

Any chance this is on anyone's radar yet? It's been over a year since people started requesting this feature and it looks like at least a dozen or so people would like to see this available.
Also, is there any other way I can encourage this without being annoying? I've tried posting a freelance offering for this but there weren't any takers. That doesn't seem the ideal way to go in any case, because I'd really like to see this supported by your talented organization. I'd rather not have to go off the reservation. :)
