If you skim the previous threads on the topic, there was quite a lot of discussion about extending the plugin to include new blogs created by users. Not sure where it stands now but considering that the description still says admin created, that's probably still.
Hi Dr Mike, when the plugin was first created it was designed so only the Super admin person could use the new template. They've now changed it so you can set one of your templates as the default template for all new blogs created via sign up form, Blog & User etc. I also got caught out by this change and was very close to getting a bit chocolate penaly :(
Hi Damien, have you set your new template as the default template? What you need to do is Go to Super Admin > Blog Templates then click on Make Default next to your default templae.
I deactivated this plugin along with a few others then deleted it ... then added the plugin via FTP upload
when i reactivated it ... the plugin still had the same settings (the plugins settings weren't deleted from the WP database)
I made a new test site and it's still getting the standard wordpress new site settings :(
really need some help here ... Im now going to disable every plugin but I dont know how to delete all the rows from the SQL database related to new blog template :(
The plugin says it works for new registrations ... so as it is not doing that ... I either have to stop all automatic registrations or find another solution :(
Did u use the superadmin account to create the template or a subblog account? Only reason I can think of why it works for me and not u is that I created the default template with a subblog account. Made that log the default.
Maybe somehow new blog templates plugin must have default blog created by user with same role as new sign ups.
I'm also having the exact same problem. I can create a site using a template from the super admin but if somebody registers their own website, the default template is not applied. In fact, the TwentyTen template is what is applied to new blogs regardless of my default template. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to wpmudev. :)
It would be a plus if you include a check of your webserver's error logs when posting a help request. Also a version check of your wp and the plugin please.
I;ve gone ahead and passed this along to the developer though, Ulrich.
This problem has put a major hold on the development of my website. I've been researching it a bit and it seems that there's another similar plugin that's experiencing the same problem with the update to Wordpress 3.0.4
Keep in mind the above link is referring to a different plugin but the fix worked for me. Hope this helps somebody. Also hope this doesn't cause another problem by doing it this way.

Hiya Chris,
Thanks for posting your solution. Are you saying you moved all the files in the New Blog Templates plugin into the mu-plugins directory and it is now working correctly?
It's meant to be working from either plugins or mu-plugins. I'll ask Ulrich to take a look, however, and see if we can verify this.
Yup, I posted all of the files that were in the New Blog Templates plug-in folder to the mu-plugins folder on my server and it worked. Keep in mind, the files were in the main mu folder and not in a subfolder of that directory.
I've tried it again with all the other plugins disabled and still it doesn't work properly unless the contents of the plugin are put inside of the mu-plugins folder.

Thanks for the link. It's always a plus to include a check of your webserver's error logs when asking for help as well.
Last I knew, the template only came into play when the admin created the blog. That's what the plugin description states:

If you skim the previous threads on the topic, there was quite a lot of discussion about extending the plugin to include new blogs created by users. Not sure where it stands now but considering that the description still says admin created, that's probably still.
I for one wish they would extend it.

Hi Damien, have you set your new template as the default template? What you need to do is Go to Super Admin > Blog Templates then click on Make Default next to your default templae.
The detailed instructions on how you do this are shown at the bottom of the installation page - http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/new-blog-template/installation/

Does it apply if you. Create a blog from the backend?
Have you tried setting a different blog as the template? You really shouldn't use the main blog as a template, or a h that you are using.

Hi Aaron
it does work when I make the blog from backend
and no im not using my main blog as a template ....
the template site is here --> http://test.social-mix.com/
the main blog is http://www.social-mix.com
Ill try to setup a different blog as a new template then set it as default ... it maybe a gremlin in the system

hi there
hmm no ... i created a new blog theme template and set it as the default
here is the new template --> http://test2.social-mix.com/
and you can see in this screenshot that this 'business enhanced template' is the default
http://awesomescreenshot.com/0f74n6ge8
Any ideas please? should I delete the plugin? delete all plugins? or is this something more serious to do?
nb. I do have a few users - so i dont really want to 'reset' everything
thanks
Damien

Also forgot to mention that I tried roberte's suggestion to create a template with a subblog account. It didn't work.

This is what I saw when I checked the error log:

I GOT IT TO WORK :) Finally, after pulling out all of my hair, I found a way to get it to work. I simply followed the instructions here:

Keep in mind the above link is referring to a different plugin but the fix worked for me. Hope this helps somebody. Also hope this doesn't cause another problem by doing it this way.

@bahamagician: We just released a new version of the plugin. Can you verify if you get the same issue with that version?

Yeah, still getting the same problem!

Did you try disabling all other plugins? (there may be a conflict with one of them)
