Hello,
Just went live with my marketpress store today.
I'm having problems with the USPS shipping. Two customers from Canada (I'm in the US) and another from Arizona were not charged shipping.
I also received an email from a potential customer in Finland and he was not getting a shipping calculation when he entered his address information. I tired this myself (for his address in finland) and it did not load shipping information for me either but I was allowed to go to the checkout page (using PayPal Express)
I However have 4 orders that did process fine with shipping charges, all being in the US.
What I've done in the mean time is to allow only US orders.
Also I am using Priority and Express for both Domestic and International, I am not using any flat rate options.
How can I get this resolved.

landshark,
Hi and thanks for using WPMU forums!
Could you please provide a screenshot of your Shipping and USPS shipping settings?
Also, please be sure you have a zip included for your Base country zip field.
Best,
Kimberly

Thank you for the reply
attached is the Shipping "tab" from "Store Settings" page from the backend.
I can also confirm all the Base location from the "General" tab are correct.

landshark,
I've flagged the developer on this to come and have a look.
In the meantime, I'd like to know if you have anything selected for target countries?
I know that Marketpress relies on that to create the shipping page to some extent (or at least it used to) so I'm not sure, but it's worth checking to see if it makes a difference.

At this point only United States. I did have everything selected but when I started having problems with Overseas (Canada and Finland and one instance of US) I turned all off except for the US. At this point all following US orders since I've posted, the shipping has been processed fine.

Then your issue will be with the overseas items...
I wonder if USPS is the cause? I've flagged the developer to come and look.

Yes seems like Overseas is the main problem. Not sure what happened with that single order to Arizona but the problem seems to have fixed itself, wish everything would fix itself.

I would be willing to bet that this is from the USPS side and what they are supplying as far as shipping options for overseas.
I'm looking over your settings again and getting stuck on the description for the Standard Boxes and Weight limits...It says that they will be used to calculate shipping...
Are there different box sizes or designations available for International shipping? Or am I trying to hard to see a fix? :)

The box fields that are there were pre-filled. So I assume that was only if you are using priority flat rate. Which I am not. I have tried to play with all of those fields to see if I could get something to take with no luck.
Plus again domestic is working fine.
When I enter an international address and complete the Postal/Zip Code field I do see the little animation that shows it is going out to the USPS server to retrieve rates but nothing comes back.
This is frustrating to say the least. Especially when I know I'm loosing sales because of it.

Found a link that seems to list the USPS package availability!
http://www.woothemes.com/extension/usps/
It's from a USPS plugin, but still useful info I think?!
I'm looking some more!

Ok, I'm looked out, I have noticed a few things on the USPS API documentation, but I'm not willing to start throwing things at you to change without knowing what may mess you up
Here is the link to the Flat Rate International Boxes, https://www.usps.com/send/priority-mail-international-flat.htm
I would leave what you have and echo below it "International Flat Rate Small" with the appropriate parameters, see how that works

Fist let me say thank you for you help and taking the time to look into this.
One of the tests I tired was to add packages specific to "international" even though all Priority flat rate boxes are the same size, there is no difference between international and Domestic. But didn't seem to make a difference anyway. Also to note the "box name" fields are limited to 20 characters.
I even checked all the international options just to see of one would take, again nothing.
What's funny about all this is I migrated over to Marketpress after 6+ years and thousands of orders, using ZenCart and then Magento. I was looking for a simpler eCommerce platform since I'm downsizing my retail sales and didn't need all the bells and whistles. Only to be stuck on something as basic to eCommerce as a shipping plugin. Looks like I might have jumped ship too quickly. Lol.
I'm not knocking you guys, just find it kind of ironic.

I can't blame you for thinking so, however we've only just implemented the USPS gateway so it will take some tweaking to figure it all out. But with help from GREAT members like you it shouldn't be a problem :)
It's great to hear that you have so much experience in eCommerce and decided to move over to see us here, I hope you will continue to give us feedback based on your experiences. We definitely want to be a go to source for people like yourself!
My apologies for Aaron's delay in chiming in here, he has probably already looked in and is looking at what may be causing the issue. I'm sure he will be around soon!
Thanks for your patience and I'm very sorry for all the confusion :)

Sorry, I thought this had been resolved. Arnold developed the USPS plugin, he'll chime in here in a bit.

Hi landshark,
We found the problem and there should be a release out in a day or so to fix it.

Ok I'm gonna re-open this.
3 of the last 4 orders were not charged USPS shipping. 2 of those orders were domestic (US) and one was overseas (Russia).
I did see this issue. http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/marketpress-not-charging-shipping-when-using-calculated-options-setting#post-214652 but my problem is not isolated to the +4 digits of the zip code.
I've tried to recreate the problem but when I put my test address it appears to calculate properly.

The problem seems to be when shipping just can't find any rates for a given address. It returns an empty set of options but currently displays nothing. So the question is what action to take? Display a message and not let them proceed unless there is a valid choice available? The empty list could result from a bad address, or a good address that the online services just don't cover.

Arnold,
Thanks for getting back to me.
As mentioned before I've been working with eCommerce for quite a few years now, mainly Zencart and Magento and always USPS and across 10's of thousands of orders have never had the issue like you describe.
I can take these addresses an manually paste them into my shipping software and get the correct rate, print and pay for the label.
Reason I mention this is not to be a wise guy, but to let you know if the problem is as you describe there must be a solution that other eCommerce systems have found.
I'm not a developer, just an end user, so I can only help with describing the problems I am running into I have no solutions as to how to fix it.

Well as we did before, if you have examples of addresses that don't work we can see what's being returned and see if there is something that can be done.

Will do. I haven't had any recent orders so nothing to report yet, but I will be sure to come back with any issues. Thanks for the follow up.
