Hi,
out of about 50 signups only a small hand full seem to be getting an error message on page two of the signup process. I was finally able to duplicate this error myself on one of my computers. Happens every time I sign up with it.
how can I trouble shoot this if it is only happening to a very small few?
I am still not understanding what is causing this.
It is in IE 7 not sure about any others. But it is not IE 7 that is causing the problem. I have two other pc's with IE7 that work perfectly with no errors.
I noticed on the computers that it works fine on, I can go directly to the address as mentioned, but with my real domain name in place of mydomainname.com
but on the computer that I get an error message, The Page can not be found. I get this message even when I go directly to the url as above with my domain in place of mydomainname.com
and actually, this is an edit to this post.... I just tried going to the url in IE on the computer it works on, and notice that Page Not found is being added in the Title tag along with my normal title.
I also just tried to register normal, and on the second page, along with my normal title in the title tag I am seeing an addition of Page not found.
in fact after my title is this » Page not found</title>
Could this be what is causing the problem? if so is there a fix?

It's a w/end so I wouldn't expect a massive amount of help right off the bat - to be honest I'm also not entirely sure what your issue is or how we could assist / test it.
Basically some of your signups are not completing fully?
Have you tried disabling all plugins? Could it be theme related (have you tried another theme)? Could it be a hosting issue?
Over a selection of machines, can you access all of the blogs? Have you tried switching them all (the ones affected) to a default theme (kubrick) with no widgets and see if that helps.
It certainly sounds like a theme or browser issue, rather than a WPMU one.
I know James asked a couple of days ago but I'll ask again. Have you tried removing all plugins to see if it's a plugin issue? That's generally the first step for any WPMU problem unless it's super obvious that something else is the culprit.
ok, I was finally able to duplicate the error on the second page of the sign up processes. I did it on a machine I have vista on, not sure if this is the problem, but I am convinced that it is a virus, that might have even been installed on new vista computers. I am suspecting it is a redirect virus, I call it a virus anyway. I found out about it by accident on one of my other machines having a different problem all together. I was able to get rid of it simply by uninstalling it from add remove programs.
here is why I am convinced that is what it is. The redirect does not redirect to any 404 error page on my server but rather redirects to a pre set up page with a short list of links to other relevant sites... I am thinking the perpetrator is gaining revenues if the links are ever clicked on.
I am thinking it is a sneaky include from Microsoft, but I could be wrong, I have been before.
I am only suspecting it is on vista, but I think I had it on one of my xp machines as well. so It could very well have been a virus I picked up. Though my machines are a bit heavy on anitvirus protection. I am not saying I may not have let my guard down a time or two.
I am thinking The redirect is prompted because from page one to page two in the sign up process WAMP/WWW is added in the url myblogsname.com/WAMP/WWW/signup.php
At least this is my theory. I am thinking this because in reality I know that the WAMP/WWW do not exist in my directories.
Any chance someone might agree with me on this, and have a solution that would not involve me educating the very small hand full of people I am finding this is affecting? Out of about 50 signups I think It has happened to only about 5 people. and I am suspicious these 5 people might be owners of vista. Just a hunch.
Im sorry for not addressing the plugin question. The problem I have with doing that is, I have several people using plugins already, and if I uninstall them, it is going to be a bit of a mess getting them all back in and activated. Will mean I will have to make a list of all who have what activated so after putting them back in I will have to go to each account and reactivate...
and, if it was a plugin issue, I am thinking, hoping anyway that this problem would have affected a much larger amount of signups. Just a thought.

I found a way to remove the Page not found error in the title tag, but I am still being redirected to a 404 page not found

That sounds definitely like you've been hacked or have a virus - there's no way that anything we offer could cause that.
