Why is the WPMU DEVs spending so much time and doing so much work on this new plugin when we can't the core plugins to work i.e membership, pro-sites or the fundraising plugins still dont work properly and we been waiting 3 months for a fully working solution ?
Seem to me to be backward thinking !
Another customer has left me today ! Now I need to find another £500 for full refund of months of work !

Alan.
Each plugin has its own developer. If you set 30 developers on one set of code that won't make things better in fact it will become a nightmare each one changing parts of the code. Hakan has his own projects here and non of them are the ones you refer to so.
I've used Pro Sites since its launch (before I became staff here) I've never really had many issues with it other than user error but then I fixed that and use it within a live environment.
Membership is a huge plugin, its in RC which is Release Candidate and thus is not classed stable. V3 is about improving on the mistakes of V2 and setting a clear path forward with a better UI and its doing that. It still needs some work but thats why we haven't set it final yet.
With regards to the fundraising plugin I'm not sure what issue or issues you refer to but this isn't the thread for that. You should continue to get support in the relevant threads and if one doesn't yet exist then please consider opening one.
Take care.

Hi Timothy
many thanks for your response and valued input i'm getting real frustrated as I cant get my network launched as i have no way of taking payment so far i'm giving everything away - not a business but a free websites for my members
I'm doing the same tips and tutorials over and over again with no way forward
soz but been working over 3 months on 2 plugins and still no luck

From your last Pro Sites thread you mentioned that "Its ok we managed to sort it" If there is still some confusion or issues then it would be worth opening another thread where we can assist further.
Provide as much detail as possible with regards to the issue, the version you use, etc. This will help in debuging any issues.
Many of the staff here run these plugins ourselves, trust me when there are issues like we had with Membership in V2 then we get just as frustrated and the developers do get to know about it. (ask Kimberly)
If you can start a new thread for any remaining issues then we can continue to assist further.
Thanks Alan. :)

I give up - I'm no begging for help !

here is a feature request:
how about having the styling of the div.pwal_container be in an external file inside the plugin folder with an option that if a file i.e. pay-with-a-like.css is found inside the active theme that one is used?
this would make customization easier...
Member (joined October 2007) Likes (0)
oh, and how about an option to customize the default text people see before they click any buttons?
I see I can change the text to show if I use "manual selection" how about being able to change the default text shown when i.e. the auto-excerpt method has been selected?
Developer (joined February 2012) Likes (0)
Hi Ovidiu,
It is exactly like that. You can edit front.css file under css folder.
Sorry, but I didn't understand what you mean. If you want to show a special excerpt for each post/page, you should use manual excerpt. If you don't want to bother writing an excerpt for each post you should use auto excerpt. If you want to protect more than one content on a post/page and/or write individual descriptions inside each protected box container, you can use "selection tool" option. In this case you can leave whatever part of the content you wish, outside the protected part.
And these settings can be set per post/page basis.
So every option is already there.
Cheers,
Hakan

thanks for the quick answer, but I fear I had not explained very well what I was asking for so let me try again:
- yes, obviously I can edit front.css but when I update the plugin all my changes are gone so usually, and one way to allow changes is to have your plugin check first inside the currently active theme if a file front.css exists and if it does, ignore its own. THis way, I could copy front.css to my current theme, edit it all day long and I could keep my changes even if I updated your plugin
- I am not sure about the second part I was asking you :-)
I only had a few minutes to test the plugin. What I was asking for was the text that is shown to people who are visiting a post they didn't like/tweet/+1 yet; I only remember that when using "selection tool" that text changes to the "description" attribute of the short-code so then I can change it to whatever I like but when using manual excerpt or automatic excerpt, how can we change the text explaining to people that they need to like/twee/+1 to see the hidden content?
Thanks for the plugin, I am one of the people who wanted it but I must say I am having some problems with my theme that prevent me from utilizing it so I won't be using it anymore, this was just feedback aimed at improving it for the community.
Developer (joined February 2012) Likes (0)
Hi Ovidiu,
You are right about storing css files inside a safe folder. I will include it to the next release.
Ok, I now understand the second part of your question. On the settings page there is a field "Description above the buttons". You can enter the description there. It is applied for all 3 methods (In selection tool option, only valid if description field inside the popup is left empty), but this is a global setting. If you want individual descriptions for each Like box, then you need to use Selection Tool method.
Cheers

Wow, this one blew me away!
It works great for blog posts, and I would guess marketpress products as well, but I have a problem getting it to work with my wpec products. I implemented this immediately and found that the page displays the "hidden" content no matter what.
I tried a multitude of settings, and tested it with safari, chrome and firefox on macos, logged out and cookies cleared. The wpec custom post type displays other shortcodes just fine.
Can this be remedied in some way? I have som buzz building up about my organic yerba mate, and I would like to offer a great discount with a coupon in exchange for a like :)
Great work guys, I will be letting you know of any conversion increase when I get it to work.
Support Chimp (joined March 2010) Likes (0)
Hakan, MarketPress does this...
But I'm thinking this could become common for plugins right?
So that would mean we end up with tons of extra folders in /wp-content/....
MP is like this:
/wp-content/marketpress-styles/
Would it not be worth both these plugins and other ones going:
/wp-content/plugin-syltes/marketpress/
/wp-content/plugin-syltes/pay-with-a-like/
So it just take the plugins folder name.
/wp-content/plugin-syltes/PLUGIN-FOLDER-NAME/
Just thinking about the path forward and organisation :)
Cheers.

I like the idea of this plugin... I just have one question.
I'm in the betting niche and we provide free tips every day. One thought i had was to use this for the free tips, so all they needed to do was like the tips and they would get access.
Is there a way that if they have liked one days tips they don't need to like the next days post? Lots of likes would be great but can see this getting tedious for regular followers?
Developer (joined February 2012) Likes (0)
Hi Attrition,
There is a setting option called "Sitewide Like". If you set it to yes, any visitor who likes a single content on the website will be exempt from all protected contents for the set cookie time, which can also be adjusted.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Hakan

Hi Hakan,
Did you manage to find out what lastaka's problem was?
I have the same here (the protected content shows, no matter what).
Thanks!

Hi bepe,
Yes. lastafa's e-commerce plugin is using a single post template so that it is directly taking the custom post content from the database. Therefore Pay With a Like does not ever be able to access to that content.
The remedy is adding a function in your custom post templates.
The next release V1.0.1 is almost ready now and it includes a function that you can use inside such templates and instructions how to use it.

When click the download button, the zip that is beeing dowloaded is called "78044_image-of-configuring-email-accounts" ... is this correct?
Developer (joined February 2012) Likes (0)
Hi sl21,
There is no download button in Pay With a Like. So you are probably having some other problems.
Can you elaborate? Can you give some links?
If you don't want to share it in public, you can send an email to me: hakan (at) incsub.com

Hi Hakan,
thanks for the quick reply, I was talking about the download button on the wpmudev.org page ;)
http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/pay-with-a-like
But I tested it, it is the correct Plugin, although the zip has a strange name.
Now I was testing it on my page and although I click on the Facebook-Like button, the "counter" rises, on my Facebookpage the like is posted, but the content is still hidden.
When I set "Admin sees full content" to Yes, then I can see the hidden content.
But the User who clicks like doesn't see anything but still the Facebook and Twitter buttons.
Can you guess what mistake I made?
cheers,
sl21

Feature Request:
Grace Period - allow the site visitor to view a given number of posts BEFORE the requirement to Like kicks in.
It would be especially awesome if it was also possible to display an alert at the top of each post:
"You are now viewing post 2 of 3 allowed posts. To view more, we ask only that you help us to spread the word about this great free content using any of the 4 methods below. Doing this just once will give you unrestricted, completely free access to all our content for the next 24 hours".
I believe that giving the user a small taste of what you offer is a much better, more diplomatic and far more logical approach than clumsily demanding that they Like your site before even experiencing any of it.

Bug:
Facebook button failing to appear in various configurations of WordPress 3.3.2, both multisite and single-site, including vanilla installs with no other plugins active.
Something is wrong with the current release and the download file is still named "xxxxx_image-of-configuring-email-accounts", three days after the error was reported in this thread.
I will continue testing.
Developer (joined February 2012) Likes (0)
Hi GraphicThought,
We can consider your feature request for the following versions, if it gets enough votes, but not for the almost ready V1.1.0 version. Because it is having the final tests now.
If it is a vanilla install and no other plugins are activated, Facebook button not appearing is an indication of a connection problem between your server and Facebook server. For example if it is localhost, it will not work, as Facebook cannot scan your local page.
This plugin has been in beta stage for 2-3 weeks here and we didn't meet such an issue. If you can give a link, I can have a look.
For the last problem you mentioned, as Timothy has already written above, we are aware about the situation. It is not about the plugin, but the download process from the server here and it will be fixed shortly. However, luckily, it doesn't affect loading of the plugin. Thanks for pointing out again.
Cheers,
Hakan

Hi guys,
was there a response to SL21's question - I too am experiencing the same issue. I pushed it live but the content does not appear after a like...
I have deactivated it but it is on the site http://www.systemlays.co.uk
Please advise

Hi Attrition,
I've just noticed that your theme is impairing a few characters in the javascript code. We didn't meet this before in our test themes, but obviously it is happening in some themes. Therefore I added a permanent fix for this in Pay With a Like V1.1.0 which will be released very very soon.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

You are using Automatic Excerpt and have it set to 100 words but your post only has two words.
Thats the issue there.
Thanks.

Also you are using the Manual Selection tool aka shortcodes. But you don't have that selected as method to use.
So it won't show them on the front. For method choose the Selection Tool.
Thanks.

@Hakan, thanks for the speedy reply.
Okay, I guess it is just connectivity issues then. Funnily enough, any of my experiments that were localhost worked just fine, the Facebook button always appeared and the likes were correctly reflected on Facebook walls.
Thanks for your continued work on this, if you can get it to function a little more smoothly, and continue to build upon the feature set, I think this could become one of the most important WordPress plugins.
You mentioned that feature requests must receive votes, where does one vote?

Hi dubya,
First of all let me say that there is no guarantee that it will work, because Pay With a Like is designed to function on post contents, not html codes, but you can try this:
If this doesn't work, you can replace this instead of the line with "see below" comment.
If still it doesn't work, this plugin is not for your application. You can try Social Marketing:
