Just started using the Social theme as our new Buddypress theme and loving it!!! So much more compatible than our previous theme was.
We are encountering one perplexing issue though:
User Avatars.
There appear to be 2 avatar sizes that are regularly used with the theme. The smaller size that appears next to a users name on Activity Stream posts. And a larger size that appears on a users profile page.
We are experiencing issues with the Avatars pixelating while on the Profile pages (the larger avatar size). The REALLY bizarre thing, though, is that it only happens intermittently.
So for example, when I first upload my avatar, it looks great on my profile. But from time to time when I go to my profile page, it will appear pixelated, only to work again minutes later.
Is there some sort of dynamic script that sizes the avatars that could be acting up? Perhaps I am off base and the issue is elsewhere?
Any assistance troubleshooting this would be appreciated. We're getting reports from many users asking why their profile pictures are blurry. (Yes, this is happening AFTER users Crop their pictures)
Thanks WPMUDev, you guys ROCK!

Greetings MyMiddleEarth,
Any chance you are using cache?
Or compression that you are aware of?
Please advise.
Cheers, Joe

Hi Joe:
First things first, I am no longer receiving email notifications of follow-up posts (Yes, the box is checked :) ) Is this a known bug? I've got several support threads open and it's unfortunate that I do not get a notification.
Moving on:
I am not using any caching plugins, and am not AWARE of any compression being applied. But I certainly could be overlooking something.

Not that I am aware of, but i use a feed to keep track of tickets therefore I cannot give you an accurate assessment as to if I am personally experiencing this phenomenon.
However, I have check marked this ticket to send me updates, so I will know on your next update/post.
I have been trying to intentionally cause the issue on my test production site http://aecnubp.us/ and testing with IE9.
Are there any other clues you may be able to give me?
Does it matter what browser you are using?
Cheers, Joe

Browser does not make any difference:
You can take a look at my personal profile on our site to see what I mean
http://mymiddle-earth.net/members/tylermjonsson/
For example: right NOW my profile picture looks quite blurred (both "large and small" versions) but just minutes ago it was fine...
Bizarre, to say the least!

Greetings MyMiddleEarth,
I agree that it sounds absolutely bizarre though I have not experienced it yet.
I did get the notification email by the way for the ticket.
I have to register to see your profile and since it is 4:30 AM here I will do it tomorrow which I am sure you will find understandable - my eyeballs are starting to drip out of my head .... lol

Still experiencing this issue, despite trying numerous fixes:
Including trying to upload an EXACTLY 150x150 pixel avatar.
Still blurs.
When you have time, would appreciate further troubleshooting tips.
Thanks guys!

Greetings MyMiddleEarth,
My sincere apologies for the delay in a reply here and the progression of this ticket, it got away from me somehow in the back of the ticket system.
I am going to go ahead and see if I can get our lead developer in here to see if he can perhaps offer us some advice/advise in the effort to cure this distorting of the avatar.
I will try to get him in here asap.
Sincerely, Joe

Thank you Joe!
Let me know if there is any other information I can provide to help in diagnosing this.

I've looked through the code and it seems that the showing of the avatar is controlled by BP, not the theme. The actual avatar call is identical to the bp default theme, so it would seem to not be theme related. If you use the default theme does the issue persist?

Thank you for checking into that Aaron:
Yes, the avatar still pixelates in Buddypress Default :(
Well now I am really and truly stumped.
I know it's not technically a WPMUDev product support issue at this point, but any advice with troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can think is some sort of internal caching in BuddyPress. I tried to trace the avatar code but didn't really have any luck.
