Hiya!
Thanks for the suggestion!
If you want to contact other members outside of the forum you're certainly free to share contact details or point people to your own site where you have a form or similar.
However, I'll see what the guys think about this...
I know it was listed in some suggestions thread to improve WPMUDEV and since I noticed the new dashboard look I was wondering whether this might be following or not ;-)

I had suggested it once or twice before. I love the idea but my fear would be that rather than using the forums for direct support some might direct it through private message. Which on its own is not an all together bad thing.... But.... It then means valuable information shared in private won't help other users in the forums if they get the same issue. More areas to consider and thus spreading our focus over chat, forums, email, wp.org and then private message. I fear it could lead to us missing something.
That said, I still think the benefits of such a feature outweighs my personal concerns.

Hey teckyhead :-)
I'd rather see a 'Contact Me' option added to user profiles. An optional link I can provide that can be directed to a contact form on my website/blog.
Why couldn't you just post that link in any relevant thread?
Many perfer not to share their website link or details to avoid it appear in search engines. In other words they don't want their traffic finding us for branding reason.
I've lost count of the number of times I've seen 'PM me' or 'PM'd' in other forums which has basically left a question open ended and unanswered.
If that PM also sent a message to the user via mail then it would ensure it falls into their inbox also.

V interesting.
I agree re:

That is totally the kind of 'dead end' experience we don't want members to have - as a lot of folk get a massive amount of help from already sorted stuff in forums.
Also, and entirely selfishly here, I think that our super dooper support staff are better used sharing their answers with the world (why wouldn't folk wanna PM 'em for their private use, I know I would)

An option for members to turn it off (but over written by moderator) would be good.
This way if I'm on holiday for a couple of weeks, people can't message me and then think I'm ignoring them whilst I'm sat on a nice warm beach :-)
