Greets:
I know we have the quote plugin included with the premium plugin. Anyone else have any ideas for plugins that one can add in as premium features? I know forums have been discussed before as well as a css editor.
edit: To clarify, that's not a request for additional plugins to be made or anything like that. It's just a kick around ideas topic.

yeah this is something im interested in, what ideas do you people have?
im thinking about guestbooks in the first level, ad-free in the second and i have no idea for the max level of premium
offcource every level should include abit more then one "premium plugin", saw in the config that it currently supports 2 plugins, but cant be that hard to change.
Im thinking of editing the invite plugin so that people get credits for every user they recruite.

That's actually hard coded all over the place so if you change it be sure to make a note of your changes or it will be a pain when upgrading to a new version of the plugin.

I don't know about guest books but I can tell you that it's going to be a pain to find a decent forum plugin that will work as a "premium plugin". We recently had to do this for a client and I literally spent two hours making hacks to a WP plugin to get it to work correctly.
Ah thx for the headsup andrew!
No problem. Just make a note of your changes and you should be just fine.
I'd "second" an image gallery. I'm currently working with one locally, which will be a PAIN IN THE ASS to make work properly for multiple MU users. It will need all kinds of things hacked together, and modified more than T-Rex.
The main problem with an image gallery is space, space, and space. Of course you also have to worry about where the images are uploaded, and how they're called.
It's been an experience, to say the least. Not to mention custom css per theme, so that it all looks good too.
I did hack to bits the Slickr gallery, but that's using flickr for storage.

We removed wp-forum from our installs considering last time I checked, the author had disappeared and there was no one really taking their place. (That was a couple of months ago though.)
We went with the yellowfish one (the 2.0 has issues with the multidb code it appears but the 2.1 beta seems to play nice with a few quick edits.)
Not that it isn't pretty much the default, but getting it to work (fully) in an MU environment was a challenge. Well, not difficult, just tedious I guess.
But, an image gallery would make a good upgrade, to get back on topic of things that one could offer (not included with the plugin).

Another one: Sitemaps. That would be a plus as you want to make this optional anyway. Running the sitemap plugin while importing is a big nono.
And maybe the ability to tie in being able to edit or modify meta tags. Maybe come up with an SEO package that ties a couple of these plugins together.

Support for "weekly" newsletters. Gotta admit that I don't like the idea of endusers sending out emails from my space as it's too easy for spammers to abuse. Attaching a ten buck fee would hopefully prevent that.
Does the premium Plugin enable you to charge users to sign up for a Blog at registration, similar to having to sign up here? And if not, is there any such Plugin anywhere?

No wonder why we've never put in a gallery plugin on our wpmu installs. :)
I wonder which forum plugin Andrew used.
Erstwhile founder — 15th October 2007 (4 years ago) #
WP-Forum. However, unless you REALLY want to offer forums to each blog it's not worth your time.
We really need a forum plugin and a gallery plugin that is designed for wpmu.
Thanks,
Andrew

I'm looking forward for a plugin that provides the option to control the number of users that can be added to a blog.

We actually won't be providing any additional premium plugins. The whole point of the "Premium" system is the have a framework that people can extend.
Thanks,
Andrew

Leech protect for images maybe? Not sure how that would work with not having access to htaccess though.
Member — 21st October 2007 (4 years ago) #
Well, images have to go through a php file to be translated to the right path, right?
Keeper of the Dark Chocolate — 21st October 2007 (4 years ago) #
Good point.
I'm tired. Been a long day.
Keeper of the Dark Chocolate — 5th November 2007 (4 years ago) #
Posting via email would be a good one. No plugin needed but you would have to setup an email account and a cron job for the client.
I'm just full of good ideas lately. :)

Been thinking about that SEO package again. A feedburner plugin would be a plus to that as well.
Keeper of the Dark Chocolate — 3rd January 2008 (4 years ago) #
Still thinking about that SEO package. Here's what I have:
- Adsense widget (Instead of having an 80-20 cut, being 100% for the client)
- Sitemap and verfication
- Feedburner
Any other suggestions on what to throw in there?
Keeper of the Dark Chocolate — 3rd January 2008 (4 years ago) #
-Urchin/ Google Analytics support as well.

Sitemaps is so on my list... an MU version almost got released on the regular forums too?
Edublogs has the analytics plugins working beautifully already and very popular too!
Keeper of the Dark Chocolate — 4th January 2008 (4 years ago) #
The sitemap fix was with the older version of mu. Arne's 3+ version works with the newer versions of mu.
James, which analytics plugins are you using? We were just using the "Put the code in there" one.
Founder & CEO — 4th January 2008 (4 years ago) #
Yep, me too... just 'put code in' with a few hacks. Now what we really need is to figure out how to represent analytics stats on the dashboard :)
By sitemap fix I mean one that runs in mu-plugins.
— 4th January 2008 (4 years ago) #
Well, this one isn;t on the dashboard, it adds yet another menu item.
http://tantannoodles.com/toolkit/wordpress-reports/
haven't tested it in mu yet, just found it today.
Jeez, James, it's like I'm your own personal Google. :D
