Hi, what happen when a subscription period is finished.
If a user have activated a premium theme, premium plugins, they remain activated ?
And about domain mapping ?

Greetings puccino :-)
the FBI, CIA, DHS, and the other three letter black dressed people in black vehicles show up at their door, box them up, and send them to a foreign country to be tortured :-)
and what were you thinking???
However, from testing we found that the theme is reverted back to the network default theme that the admin has chosen and the Plugins DO remain active - therefore so does Domain Mapping.

Greetings :-)
I was pretty sure that it switches back the theme but after checking our test site again it did not :-(
and it does not with plugins too.
When we tested this we were more concerned with plugins being de-activated and that the expired account receives an email that their account has expired - which it does not do either.
On the other hand, Pro Sites with PayPal is setting up a subscription based payment plan and you will certainly receive an email from PayPal if a subscription cannot be paid or it is cancelled. The end user will also get emails from PayPal.
If the user cancels the subscription or PayPal cancels the subscription for nonpayment three times....
I suppose we then need to go in as admin and de-activate the premium features both themes and plugins manually.

Hey puccino.
When a site subscription expires, it downgrades as Joe explained. If you gave them a 1 gig space upgrade, it will revert back to the old size however all existing uploads would still remain on there.
I know about storage space, it's included with pro site, like ads and other post quota.
My problem is with themes and plugin that should be only for pro site users. I don't know if it's possible to add this function to pro site plugin, downgrade site user when their pro site statu expires.
By downgrade i mean deactivate their premium themes and plugins.

I think it would be good and simple that Pro site acts as did pay to blog : the site gets down with a message "site deactivated" or any other custom message.
In fact it is the only way and is very important I think :)
In my case, i just want to deactivate all premium options, so people will have to suscribe again to use them.
Now if a user pay for 1 month, he will have access to premium options he have activated (plugins and theme). So why pay every months if 1 month is enough ?
And if i activate free trial, he don't have to pay anything for premium theme and plugins....

Greetings Everyone :-)
after considering all of the above and the possible or improbable solutions, I would have to agree with Aphrodite "that it would be good and simple that Pro site acts as did pay to blog : the site gets down with a message "site deactivated" or any other custom message."
This would absolutely be the cats meow and total solution.
However, a quick solution would be to use a Control Panel (Apache) redirect or possibly htaccess redirect for the expired site to a page that Aphrodite has described.
The only drawback that I can see is that it would have to be manually administered both for activating it and de-activating it :-(
I know what Phil said, i guess that a dev could add this feature,.
And i don't want that a site get down, just to get back to default options, so i'm waiting a dev to tell if it's possible to add this...
The suggestion of aphrodite can't be usefull, because ther are a lot of free networks site, wordpress.com for example, so people will go to thme instead of paying.
This topic is for talking about that.

For a definitive answer:
When their paid for period expires, current premium theme will be switched to default and plugins will be deactivated. Same for when they change their level down or up, associated themes/plugins will be autoactivated/deactived.
It is important to note though that if it's not a manual extend/revoke, then these changes will only trigger when that blog site is loaded front or back end.
Also when the expire happens, they will be redirected to the checkout page first login untill they choose a plan or free.

The trial should behave the same. Are you sure you are looking at the blog's plugins page as a non super-admin? And sure that plugins are set to your trial level and not just free?
Why does Phil's answer directly contradict what you are telling?
Phil doesn't know everything! Supporter did not deactivate, it was part of the pro sites upgrade.

yes sir I am positive about the trial which was performed at the time on a brand new fresh install of WP 3.3.1 and the new Pro Sites Plugin - but I think there was one update since that initial test :-)
I will run another test with some what are on my site pro plugins and themes.
Sir the only reason why I mentioned this about Phil was because we totally dropped our Trial Program due to his - now what appears not so definitive answer.
As you can see from that thread I basically accepted the answer and quit trying :-(

that is fantastic news :-)
Thank you for letting us know :-)
I originally planned on launching our new network at the end of this month with the trial, then when I found the bug to launch without the trial, and now I shall delay maybe one day to allow the trial again :-) which is of no great consequence and fantastic news that this will be working as anticipated and hoped :-)
Interesting... I had pretty much given up on this feature so I was going to use pay-to-blog module instead. But if the update actually does allow the downgrade of themes and plugins as described then I'm back on-board with the trial concept.
So anxious to launch and so close...
Thanks for looking into this Aaron and thanks for your voices on the matter paccino, aecnu, troykd
Thanks for the update Aaron! I've been testing and I'm not seeing any change in the theme when I revoke ProSite status. I'm assuming that the previously selected non-premium theme is what a site would switch to once it's non longer a ProSite.
For me the site just keeps the premium theme. How about you guys... @aecnu, @puccino ?

It reverts to the default theme, either selected by our default theme plugin or the WP_DEFAULT_THEME define (which if not set I think wp uses twentyeleven).
I didn't know about the default theme plugin or define so I guess that's the reason. I was relying on the Blog Templates for my theme proliferation. I'll make the adjustments now.
In my tests Blog Templates plugin overrides the default template plugin and the "define" which I set in the wp-config. So as long as I am using Blog Templates it seems I can't accomplish a default theme to fall back to. I tried setting Blog Templates to not copying the settings and themes, but that's never gonna work because those settings, widgets etc. are a crucial part of using the Blog Templates plugin.
Maybe a future release of Blog Templates can have the theme settings separate from the other settings etc. Not sure if that's possible but I haven't thought of another way.
Hi, i'm using new blog templates too, i have tested free trial for 1 day and it's working fine now.
After trial period, user is redirected to pro site page and theme come back to default Twenty Eleven, and plugins are deactivated.
I have also added and removed manually pro site statut, and it's working fine too.
Great update :)

Yes latest version here. that's definitely not what I'm experiencing. I'll check but I'm pretty certain all files are good. I'll do as suggested and let you know.
I don't understand your question. My new blog template is set with twenty eleven theme and some free plugins. Free trial is set to give my users all premium access, and after this, all premium access are removed, and themes and premium plugins are deactivated.

Not possible being that it will set plugins, themes, etc. back to a free user level so to speak.
However, the suggestion that Aphrodite gave above:
the site gets down with a message "site deactivated" or any other custom message.
is the best solution we can hope for and hopefully will be implemented soon :-)

I am sure a Dev would jump in if there was a viable solution.
and no Wordpress.com cannot even begin to fill the void that these plugins do.
I just went to my wordpress.com site - http://freegiftsgiveaway.wordpress.com/ - and checked out what they offer. Screen shot provided :-)
eCommerce - um no
Membership sites - um no
Realistically and taken right from their site what do they offer?
No much.
Now compared to what a WPMU Dev Member could construct and offer profitably for much less .....
As MC Hammer would say - can't touch this!

well sir that sounds good and unless this is a recent change in pro sites this did NOT happen on our live site when the "Trial" period ended.
To clarify more are you agreeing that this does not work for trials that it sets the theme and plugins back?
but does work for regular upgrades?
Why does Phil's answer directly contradict what you are telling?
