I've done a quick test install and it seems to work fine for me.
The Slider is just that, a slider, not a slideshow, so it won't move automatically. We do have another theme with a slideshow if that is what you are looking for. Please advise :)
If you want to provide a link and the actual slider is not working I'd be glad to take a look at your settings. Just pop up a screenshot.

Hi Kimberly,
somehow I thought it is a slide show not just a slider. I don't think slider is good for my purposes. I guess the one with a slider show is not suitable for Market Press? Please advise.

Almost any theme can be a great match for Market Press when using the included shortcodes and a grid rendering plugin like the MarketPress Grid plugin
That should indeed get you going using a theme that you like with the slide show.
