I can't get the Q&A plugin working correctly with the Thesis theme. The pages display, but without any of the theme elements in place. Has anyone got this up and running correctly with Thesis?

A screenshot would be helpful.

Here is a screenshot. This is running on Thesis 1.8.

One way to fix it would be to compare your theme's single.php file with the single-question.php file found in qa/default-templates and see which lines of code are missing.

Thank you for the suggestion. This is more than the sidebars missing. All theme elements (header, footer, CSS styling, etc.) are missing. It may be something to do with how Thesis operates as a theme, which is different than the standard WP themes. If I can't get an answer from the plugin developers here, I'll ask in the Thesis forums as well.

Any updates here?
Just wanting to find out if there's a resolution for future folks that will come along with the Thesis theme.
Thanks!

No updates. It's still not working and I haven't gotten any ideas on how to make it work with Thesis.

Hiya,
I know there is another thread around here with folks talking about Thesis and Q&A but can't seem to find it right now. Anyone?
I have no experience with Thesis personally so can't be much help :(

Hiya,
Thesis really breaks stuff up and takes everything away from the standard template files.
That means that plugins like Q&A that do a lot with the interface are completely messed about.
I get the exact same glitch with Thesis on my multisite registration page, which is really frustrating!

Any solutions to this yet? We develop a lot of sites in Thesis and would love to be able to offer our clients this type of functionality.

I'm afraid there's not a lot we can do.
Thesis is a great theme (I use it myself) but it really does cause havoc with a lot of plugins, including Q&A.
What's really needed is a bit more support for other plugins from Thesis...

Hi All,
I've come up with a modification to Q&A that lets it work just fine with Thesis. I've sent a copy of the modifications to Phil @ WPMUDev so they can fix the plugin but it will probably be a while before they can get it through their update process.
If anybody would like to try the Thesis compatible version drop me a line at
supportATwebwrights.com
I haven't looked at the other plugins that have trouble with Thesis but it may be that the same techniques will work on them as well since the coding will probably be the same style.

Hey arky.
Thanks for that!!
Was it an extensive change? If not then please feel free to post them in this thread, I'm sure people would really appreciate that. :-)
Take care.

I sent him a copy of the full mod. I'm sure it's just scheduling

Hi WPMU,
It looks like 6 versions of Q&A have been released since Arky's post on Nov 29, 2011. I've emailed him to have a look at his mod, but was just wondering where WPMU was in terms of incorporating a fix into Q&A. The latest version of Q&A (1.0.8) didn't seem to display properly on the latest version of Thesis ( 1.8.3) Any idea on timelines? Thanks!

Can you please give 1.1.2 a try and let us know how it goes? Thanks.

Hi Arun,
I still can't seem to get the Q&A plugin (1.1.7) to work with Thesis (1.8.4). I'm getting a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error, so perhaps I haven't set things up correctly. (I tried to follow the customization instructions here: http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/qa-wordpress-questions-and-answers-plugin/installation/)
If I don't copy any template files over to my thesis folder, my screenshot looks like scutter above.
If I copy the php files from the Q&A thesis-templates folder (archive-question.php, ask-question.php, edit-answer.php, edit-question.php, single-question.php, and user-question.php) over to my thesis_184 folder, I get the 500 error.
If I copy the php files over to my thesis_184/custom-## folder for my site (on a multisite installation), nothing happens.
Can you give me more specific installation instructions? Thanks for your help.

Can you please check your server logs for any PHP errors or a server misconfiguration?

Hello CB,
Did you happen to figure it out? Please do what Moha suggested and see :)

I am switching themes this week and am going to see if it works with the new theme and problem solve from there. I'm somewhat technical but I don't know how to check my server logs. I'll get help with that if the plugin doesn't work on my theses theme. I think I saw there may be some considerations for using that theme so will dig up those instructions to give to my installer. I'm marking this resolved and will open a new ticket if I have problems with the other theme. If you have any quick links to share like how to find php server log or theseis Q&A plugin tips please forward. Thanks!

Good luck with the theme update. For php errors, this might help: http://digwp.com/2009/07/monitor-php-errors-wordpress/
or use a plugin like this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/error-log-dashboard-widget/
Good luck!
