You should check out Gravity Forms ( http://www.gravityforms.com/ ). I'm not affiliated with them, but I use their plugin all the time. It's a SUPER easy way to make web forms for your site... like for a contact us page. But it's very powerful and allows you to make forms that tie in with the WP database. So you could make a form that allows someone to create a post that need approval from an admin, for example. It's very cool. It's really similar to the way Mach Forms ( http://www.appnitro.com/ ) works if you've ever used that, but this is just for WP.
Wow, thank you all :-)
I looked at all of your suggestions and Gravity Forms seems to be just what I need. Also for my other forms like the contact forms on my sites. Contact Form 7 works ok, but Gravity Forms has much cleaner XHTML and more options.
Well, you get for what you pay ;)

It is possible. I don't know of a plugin that does this. The P2 theme is a good example of posting from the front end.

I'm a real fan of DD secure form mailer: http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/secure-form-mailer-plugin-for-wordpress/
We use it here for our contact forms and it's v. easy to configure to create any sort of email submission form.
However, of course, you;re gonna get more active development / better support with something like gravity (as it's paid :)

If you are using BuddyPress, the BuddyPress Quickpress plugin may do it for you:

From the plugin page:

you can refer to P2 theme like Aaron mention...
you can also change the post status from "publish" to "draft" if you want to
review user post before published it...check p2 index and post-form.php..
