Hi,
I know that meta keywords are not being considered by most of major search engines anymore in their rankings (well, at least this is what search engines (not all!) say...).
However keywords are still an important meta data information about a web page (even if you trust them or not, this is not the question here). And keywords have other purposes besides rankings in search engines, especially in a semantic web perspective. Many web applications and services still use them, for example web directories.
Moreover, I'm sure that a lot of my future customers are still convinced that keywords are an important part of SEO. So why shouldn't they have this option?

because of that : http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/09/google-does-not-use-keywords-meta-tag.html
and the abuse of false meta keywords by many webmasters...
So you can use any meta keywords plugins for other web application but the purpose of SEO is SEO....
And i can insure you that this plugin just kills without met keywords. Any post of mine is indexed in less than 5 minutes, with the good keywords.
And, as you can see try this keywords in google : plugin SEO wordpress multisite
curiously, MY post is... the FIRST answer BEFORE wpmudev
I am NOT indexed in ANY other index ou "virtual" indexes.
lol !
love you guys ^^
So what ???? What is the best answer to your customers ? The meta keyword presence OR their place in google ? huh ?

Hi,
Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback. I know that this plugin is great. I wouldn't waste my time writing about it if this was not the case. :-)
As you say the meta keywords have no direct impact anymore on the rankings of major search engines (or a very limited one: for example, some search engines like Yahoo use them after checking that they are related to the page content). This is what I said in my first post and this should not be the debate here. If I had more time I could even show you that these meta keywords can be useful for SEO purposes... but not in the way you think. For example, when I build a SEO strategy for a website, I use the meta keywords as personal memos to remember what are the words I want to put the emphasis on for every distinct page of my website (I'm talking here about the content of these pages). And the web applications I was talking about (for example a web directory) can even bring you some back links from pages containing your keywords (because they automatically retrieved them). I have also used a SEO application in the past that used the meta keywords of my website to check a few things regarding my web competitors and analyse the textual content of my pages). You may find some other good reasons on the web, for example here: http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/why-i-still-use-meta-keywords
If you don't want to enter meta keywords for your web pages you're free to do so. My opinion is that a complete SEO solution should offer the possibility to enter these meta keywords. Keywords are still an important part of the meta information of a web page. And finally there is one thing you can be sure: including them will never hurt your search engine rankings. :-)
So I hope that this simple request will be heard by the team here :-)
Cheers
Laurent

I agree - I suggested the same in an earlier post. In fact, for posts the plug-in could pull the tags and use them as the keywords.

Hello,
The latest version (v1.1) has a field for keywords in the SEO metabox in post editor. Of course, the keywords support is entirely optional - if you don't enter anything in this field, no meta keywords tag will be generated for your post.

How about a check box to use tags as key words?

Hi,
Just a quick update, in the latest release (v1.2, just released), the plugin allows you to use post tags as keywords too. If you enable using tags, post tags will be merged in with any other keywords you enter in the text box.
