Buddypress allows you to add meta data to a group.
Here is a good tutorial showing how to add a field called, "Favorite Color" to a buddypress group:
http://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/how-to-edit-group-meta-tutorial/
However, the buddypress search does not seem to search the group meta data. For example, if I enter that my favorite color is "blue", I can not use Buddypress' search to search for "blue". No results are found.
How can I allow buddypress to index and search group meta data?
Thanks for your help.

Greetings targetdir,
It can be pretty challenging to support other peoples work, but we do our best here to help you with any WordPress issues at all.
According to the Buddy Press web site this feature was deprecated as indicated by the below post:
http://svn.buddypress.org/tags/1.1/bp-groups/deprecated/bp-groups-deprecated.php
The coding appears to still be there for fulfilling this function.
Could you please post the results / problems you've come across doing it yourself here that would definitely help too.
Please advise.
Thank you for being a WPMU Dev member!

Hi aecnu,
I couldn't see in your link where it was deprecated?
The code to add meta data is using groups_get_groupmeta and groups_update_groupmeta. Is there another way to add/edit/manage group meta data?
Please advise.

Greetings targetdir,
We must be having a miscommunication here, actually I was waiting to hear from you what Buddy Press has said about this issue and the results / problems you've come across doing it yourself?
Unfortunately in Buddy Press's obvious professionalism they said the coding includes deprecated functions but do not in fact specifically mention which functions those are .... lol
I truly want to help you with this issue, but because it is not one of our plugins I have no developer assignment to ask to help with this.
However, I will see if I can get the WPMU Dev lead developer in here for his advice/advise on this subject and try to get him in here asap.
Just for your information, your bump caused another one week delay in a reply. Being that the way the ticket system works is when a reply is made by anyone it moves it to a lower position in the que and may not even appear in the list on our screen.
As I mentioned I will see if I can get our lead developer in here asap to offer any insight he may have into this subject.
Cheers, Joe

Greetings targetdir,
I have researched this again and to date have not found anything related to this specialized search.
What have you managed to find from the Buddy Press forums or Buddy Press plugins that gives us this feature or gives us the answer to this hard to resolve question?
Please advise.
Cheers, Joe

Greetings targetdir,
Thank you for finally responding, it is appreciated.
Now I ask again, what have you managed to find from the Buddy Press forums or Buddy Press plugins that gives us this feature or gives us the answer to this hard to resolve question?
And for the first time what challenges have you come up with trying to code it in yourself?
Please advise.
