1. There isn't any SQL to run for the site wide text change plugin, and
2. It shouldn't be within a directory in mu-plugins, place the site-wide-text-change.php file directly within mu-plugins, and the sitewidetextincludes directory (and it's contents) in there as well.
i can't get this plugin to work at all. i put the folder with the plugin in it in the normal plugin directory and it is detected and can be activated both site wide (obviously what we want) and for the individual subdomain, but then it doesn't appear in the admin menu like it says it should.
1) can someone explain to me where we are supposed to be putting these plugins? they only seem to be detected when i put the folder containing the files in the plugins folder, i never use the mu-plugins folder for that reason.
OK so I tried to version 2 and now whether I follow these instructions and put it here or I put it in the regular plugins directory and then activate it I get an error. What am I doing wrong and where are these plugins supposed to go? Like I said, I've only ever been able to get plugins to work from the normal plugins directory, i never use the mu-plugins directory because it has never worked so I figured the instructions are old, can someone please clarify this for me?
also, are there supposed to be any non plugin files in the mu-plugins directory? if there are then i have deleted them by accident when deleting the plugin. i have a backup someplace and i'll check for it, but i'd really like it if someone could explain how the mu-plugin folder is supposed to work and if it is supposed to have any default files in it.
for version 2.9.2 and again let me know if you think I should try and upgrade now.
Plugin Name: Site Wide Text Change
Author: Andrew Billits
Files:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
site-wide-text-change - goes in /wp-content/mu-plugins
/sitewidetextincludes/ - goes in /wp-content/mu-plugins
Instructions:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Place the files in the specified directories
Unzip the archive and place the php file and the sitewidetextchange directory and it's contents in the root of the mu-plugins directory and it should be included ok.
OK so I tried to version 2 and now whether I follow these instructions and put it here or I put it in the regular plugins directory and then activate it I get an error
When i put the php (site-wide-text-change.php) file and the plugin folder (sitewidetextincludes) into the mu-plugins folder i get a fatal error that crashes the entire dashboard:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function autoblog_dir() in /home/***/public_html/***.com/wp-content/mu-plugins/site-wide-text-change.php on line 82
thanks man. any verdict on upgrading to 3? I don't want to break my entire site. haha. i'm using a lot of plugins so i'm guessing it's a bad idea, but do most of the lastest versions of the premium plugins only work with 3.0?

Yeah, most of the "latest" versions of premium plugins here only work with 3.0.
Many here have reported smooth upgrade processes. Just check your plugins first to make sure there are updated versions of them, then disable ALL of them and do a manual upgrade to the newest WordPress. Finally add your plugins back in one at a time. If any become an issue you can troubleshoot it from there.
ok man, i'm going to do it. haha. it's about time, i was too scared to do it a few months ago, but hopefully it will be ok now haha. thank for your help!

No problem. I still have one wpmu 2.9.2 install hanging out that I haven't tackled an upgrade for yet... ::embarrassed:: I've got several plugins that I'll have to go through and I always seem able to find something else that needs my attention ;D Good luck to you!
I don't know what is going wrong. Instructions have been followed :
site-wide-text-change - goes in /wp-content/mu-plugins
/sitewidetextincludes/ - goes in /wp-content/mu-plugins
and here is a screen shot.

Hiya,
This is most likely a plugin loading some form of javascript where it shouldn't be. Try going through and disabling each of your plugins one at a time and try the Add New button. When it works, you've found the plugin that's the problem.
If it's one of ours, let us know or (more likely) contact the other plugin developer about the issue ;D
If deactivating all other plugins and mu-plugins does not fix the issue. Let us know and we'll try something else. Thanks!
Do you have access to firefox browser and firebug?
Can you load the site wide text change page with firebug open and on the network tab. We are looking for anything that's coloured red which would indicate a missing file.
I do have FF browser and installed firebug adon. I can't upload the zip file by this way without having an error. By this way I can only upload regular plugins in the WP list.
So I use filezilla for all wpmudev plugins.
I have also uninstall and redo install. Not better.

Hiya,
Were you able to follow the instructions Barry provided with firebug? The network tab in firebug has the abbreviation "net". Make sure it's enabled and then refresh the site wide text change in wp admin. Thanks!

Hiya,
Apologies, but I'm having a little trouble understanding which steps you've tried.
I can't upload the zip file by this way without having an error.
Are you trying to upload the zip file through the wordpress "Add New" plugins? If so, you cannot add many of our plugins this way. If the install.txt file says to place them in "mu-plugins" then you need to do this with an FTP program.
So I use filezilla for all wpmudev plugins.
Yep. That's what you want to do.
I do have FF browser and installed firebug adon
Ok good. Now, when you load the "Site Wide Text Change" like your screenshot, I'd like you to open firebug and make sure it's enabled. Then, refresh the page. The firebug window will display any errors or conflicts that may be keeping the plugin from working properly. :D
Sorry, my english is sometimes weak. My French is better :))
I always use filezilla to upload wpmudev plugins. I misunderstood Barry as I thought he was asking me to upload the files with the WP inside browser. This method doesn't work on my installation. Even actually i do neither can't upload Media files in the library.
So I ran <Text Change> as you recommend with FF and FB window opened. (I'm not a programmer in any way)
Here is the screen shot. Tell me if it's the way and which submenu I have to check. The file is long and many red lines inside.
Anyway if it's too complicated i'll remove this plugin and keep it on the side for later.
OK, first progress - in multisite (not WPMU) the plugin looks for the JS inside a folder "site-wide-text-change" added the folder load error goes away but still no add code. Going to try and change the path to the JS directly to "sitewidetextincludes"
Hi guys, sorry if I'm completely useless and missing something basic. I've installed the plugin using both the plugin installer, and the manual method. It allows me to install and activate the plugin, but it doesn't appear anywhere on my left menu bar. I'm using:
WordPress: Version 3.0.1
BuddyPress: Version 1.2.5.2
I've also got the fluency plugin installed, but that shouldn't have any effect, it just makes the back end menus look nice. Please give me a hand if you can - thanks a ton!

@lightbeam - you need to download an older version of the plugin for mu 2.9.2 - the current version is 3.0 + only.
You can grab older versions from here:

Hiya lightbeam,
This was a known bug in version 2:
http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/wp3-plugins
If you're using WPMU 2.9.2 you'll want to go with version 1. Otherwise, go with the latest version. Thanks! :D

I did deactivate one by one, but it didn't work
I deactivated all and kept this only one...and still it doesn't work
what else could i try?
Member — 17th August 2010 (1 year ago) #
Could it be caused by the PHP version?
I've noticed that some plugins needed at least PHP 5.2 to run
Sales & Support Lead — 17th August 2010 (1 year ago) #
Hiya,
I'm not sure about this specific plugin's requirements, but WordPress will soon require PHP 5.2 anyway. This was announced last month:

Hi Mason,
As I tolds earlier i'm unable uploading directly from the WP browser.
I have this message :
The files could not be removed to /var/www/vhosts/xxxxx.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.
looking everywhere to fix this too because I can't neither use the media library tab to add new files by the integrated browser.

I have the same problem - firebug is accusing missing file sitewideadmin.js?ver=4 in the includes.
Developer — 31st August 2010 (1 year ago) #
What directory path is it looking for the file in? Should say if you hover over the file in firebug.
Member — 31st August 2010 (1 year ago) #
OK, first progress - in multisite (not WPMU) the plugin looks for the JS inside a folder "site-wide-text-change" added the folder load error goes away but still no add code. Going to try and change the path to the JS directly to "sitewidetextincludes"

It's sounding like you have things in the wrong location / directories. Can you let me know the answer to the post above?

it's looking for /wp-content/plugins/site-wide-text-change/sitewidetextincludes/js/sitewideadmin.js?ver=4

my installation is a multisite in wp 3.01

Ok, you need to put the plugin in the mu-plugins directory like it says here:

OK - I'm new to MU sites - can I have a mu-plugins even if I'm running the multisite? Will give it a try...
