I feel like I've done everything right. Put files in the mu-plugins folder, updated the htaccess, checked that it had the recent change date, but there is no evidence of sitemaps or All in one Seo on my site (not in plugins, not at the bottom of add post pages, etc). When I test for sitemap get the following.
XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://www.localhost.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:
Clearly I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what it would be.
I've installed domain mapping although I'm not sure that's working either...could that be an issue?

Please get into a habit of installing one plugin at a time, testing it to make sure that it works, and then moving on. Installing plugins on top of one another, especially when they're not working, is (oh, I can;t think of a decent analogy.) not that great of a method of managing a website.
That's the way it;s supposed to work. Both sitemap and AIO are simple versions that give no options to their end users. In wordpress speak, it;s for "endusers who can't spell ftp."
Is the plugin installed on to localhost? If not, can you please give a link?
If so, can you save the sitemap.xml file, rename it to sitemap.txt and attach it to this thread please?
