Regarding the SEO section at the bottom of a post where it says "Title, Descriotion, Keywords".
I was told by a friend that even if we leave this blank, the SEO plugin would still optimize the post by using the categories, etc.
(1) Is that true? (Just double checking)
(2) If it is true, is it best to allow it to do it by itself? Im asking because how would it determine the description. I can see it determining title and categories.
Im just trying to make sure Im doing things correctly. :)

Hiya!
I believe your friend is correct. I haven't verified this myself, but this is my assumption of how it works as well.
Anyone else have experience with this plugin to give a "definitive" answer?
Thanks!

I'm confused. This sitemap is sold by MPMUDEV.ORG and the support team doesn't understand how it works? What am I missing here? Are these plugins NOT developed and supported internally?

@Qwerty: usually plugins that auto-determine the description use the excerpt for that or if not present first few paragraphs of the content
@topracer:
they are developed internally but everyone in that team has a certain function and knows only certain plugins. sitemap was developed by someone other than masonjames check the plugin file for more info and way before masonjames's time here.

We've got a new sitemap / SEO plugin hopefully available in alpha/beta by the end of this week (or next) - I think you'll like that one a lot more!

I'm currently using AIOSEO + XML Sitemap Generator for my multisites. Is your current Sitemap / SEO plugin a better alternative to these plugins? Should I wait for your new plugin before considering a switch?

Greets and welcome to wpmudev.
The seo and sitemap plugins from here are made for endusers who wouldn;t normally understand the concepts behind them. They're very basic, automated, and do not allow for any changes to be made to them by the enduser. (In wp speak, it;s for those users "who can;t spell ftp".)
It's a matter of opinion which you offer your own endusers. Gotta admit that on our rollout packages, we use the full versions found elsewhere.
Hope this helps,

No idea about the new one. I get no backend access. (And I want to keep it that way.)

Hiya guys,
There's a ton of interest around the new SEO plugin and as James said above, it's due for an alpha release very soon. You'll get to play around with it and provide feedback that will help determine how we proceed with development.
Thanks!

Hey guys,
Just found this thread and am wondering if the new SEO plugin that was mentioned had been released. I just installed the "Sitemaps and SEO - Wordpress MU Style" plugin but if you have a better one coming out I might as well just wait as I'm still working on development. Will it appear as an upgrade or a separate plugin altogether? (Just wondering what I'm looking for)
Thanks for everything you guys do around here!
