We have a need to allow users submit an external URL within their blog. From this URL, we want to extract the title, image and description (or first 3 paragraphs) and include it within the blog. We saw the "Status" plugin and the LINKS option is doing what we want. However, we would much rather have this option within a new POST editor so that the visual rich editor is also available along with category selection, etc.
Do you have another plugin or if it is possible to use the Status plugin in such a way?

Greetings michaelmof,
Thank you for this great question.
Currently it is not possible to use the status plugin in this way that I am aware of, but this would also make a great feature request.
However, I certainly do not know everything, with that said I will see about getting the lead developer with his invaluable insight in here for comment/advice.
Though this may take longer then a normal ticket, I will try to get him in here asap.
Thank you for being a WPMU Dev Member!
Cheers, Joe
Edit: Added from other ticket for lead developer input:

Hey there,
Please give this plugin a try, it can do something very similar to what you asked for: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-web-scrapper/
Cheers!

Hi,
While this is not currently possible, the posts created by the plugin are just regular posts so, once the link has been fetched and processed, you can open them up in the post editor and change them in any way you wish.
As for the other question (submitting posts to review), this is currently not possible. The plugin publishes posts by default, or stores them as drafts. However, if there is some interest, adding support for submitting posts for approval shouldn't be difficult at all.

@VeBailovity, thanks for you reply. We do need the feature to review status/posts. Also, currently the only way we can make the Status plugin visible is to make users Authors, otherwise they cannot see the status entery form. We cannot have all users with Author rights because we need to review all posts.
Is it possible to add the feature in so that Status can also be reviewed (at least for when users are contributers)?
All your support is much appreciated.
Thanks.
Arun Basil Lal, thanks for your reply as well. We reviewed the plugin your recommended but we cannot use it for this purpose but we may be able to use it else where.

Hello,
Just to update, the latest plugin release (v1.4, just released) has the ability to allow your contributors to use the Status prompt. Of course, any posts made by contributors will be held for review. To enable this behavior, you can toggle the option named "Allow submitting for review" in plugin settings.

VeBailovity, I didn't get a chance to reply earlier but thanks so much for the update you made. We tested it and it is working great for us.
