I can't remember when the 2.6.whatever release got release but considering the few changes that got made to the options-discussion.php file, it should be fairly easy to update the file found in the download from here.

The avatars plugin has not been updated for 2.7 yet.

It works fine for me under wpmu 2.7
Just one thing, don´t copy the options-discussion.php to the /wp-admin folder
The options-discussion.php version 2.7 contains all needed changes.
