Hi Siobhan,
Very nice tutorial. But why you delete the code in function.php? I think using remove_filter() and add_filter is the best code to use in function.php.

I was wondering if you could explain where to find this coding. It's not in the stylesheet so I'm a tad bit confused in reading the tutorial. Thank you.
The themes have changed to not use imports. I will ask the writer of the article to post an update for you here and / or on wpmu.org.

the tutorial is outdated. still there are image of stylesheet that are not up to date with the current theme.
