Majority of the free blog and website hosts lets the user choose the theme during the signup process itself.
I can't think of a single one that does that. Gotta admit that I'm strongly against that as Buddypress' required upload your avatar causes a lot of problems. Anything that adds to the signup process, especially with something that's going to require documentation or loading a s*cough*t load of image files isn;t something I want getting in the way.
I would like to hear both the Admins and other fellow members' opinion.
I would think making this suggestion and discussing it in the threads that already exist would be a better place instead of hijacking James' announcement thread. I'm sure we're all going to get spanked for discussing it.
Rebranded meta widget has successfully added a link to my buddypress network to every blog, but there are so many other links in the Meta list I don't want users to see: how do I remove these?
Ah, now I understand - and you're right. Thanks for taking the time to explain this. So what I need to do is to ensure that all new blogs created using the default WP theme have this widget in the sidebar.
I hadn't thought to test it with Batch Create or Blog & User Creator to see if it applies the random theme to them. Thanks for checking and I will add this information to each of those plugins later.
And the answer is yes! When you use Batch Create or Blog & User creator with the Random Theme on signup it also randomises the themes when you create them using these tools.

Any thoughts on developing a plugin to do just that?
I would like to hear both the Admins and other fellow members' opinion.
Thanks.

A bit of a highjack, but our new easy blogging wizard was meant to address that usability factor among others.

What links specifically?

I agree with @gtn
I would really like to see this plugin give control over the entire set of links in the meta widget.

@Aaron
Thanks for coming back quickly on this!
The links I'd like to see gone are
Valid XTHML
XFN
Wordpress
I'm running current versions of BuddyPress and WPMU

Those links are not part of the meta widget. They are probably added as a default widget in your theme if your sidebar has no widgets.
Here is a screenshot of the default:

Or better yet modify the theme's sidebar.php file.

Hi,
If we use the "random theme" plugin and create blogs using the "batch create" will each new batch created blog be assigned a random theme?

That's a very good question!
