Hi there
I'm new to WPMU and so I just installed Farm133 themes. Wordpress updates is telling me there are 38+ themes with updates -- I'm just wondering if I'm supposed to update them or if they were modified as part of the Farm133 pack
cheers

Hiya Damien,
The Farm133 pack consists of themes that we've modified and re-worked in order to function well in a multi-site environment and have some extra coding to work well with our plugins here.
The plugins are freely available and the original authors have probably provided their own updates - and that's what you're seeing. I'd normally advise against updating these themes, but you could also check out the changelog for the individual themes and see if they are providing an update or improvement you'd like to see for the theme.
Otherwise though, I'd just ignore them.
Hope this helps! Thanks!

edit: All this has been discussed previously if you want to read up on it: http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/dashboard-updates-shows-themes
It's always a plus to install a single item at a time, one at a time, test it and make sure that it works. Installing a large quantity all at once is just asking for trouble. Kind of like jamming 100 cigs in your mouth and lightening them all up at once.
Do not trust the autoinstaller/updater. Read the first point here for one of the many reasons why:
http://wpmu.org/wordpress-security-101-8-tips-tricks-and-tweaks-to-secure-your-wordpress-website/
In your case, the updater is looking at the wp.org database. Those themes and plugins are normally for regular wordpress, not the multiuser version. You can update if you want but it's not recommended. Kind of like putting regular gas in an unleaded car.
Please considering creating a testbed and testing on that before doing anything to a live site. That's highly recommended.
You may also want to disable the checking as well since it does pass back a fair amount of information to Automattic. That's a plugin somewhere but I can;t do lookups from here. (edit: It's discussed in that other thread.)
Hope this helps,

We should keep those security links in a very prominent place I just secured a site of mine and it's actually loading faster now (wild)

I was hoping we could get an archive page over at wpmu.org. It was a pain looking for that article.
