with WHMCS MU Provisioning does it require root access or control over unknown domains ? Currently whmcs won’t automatically create a new site on the server

Hi There!
Welcome to the WPMU DEV Community!
in order to create sites on a multisite install you need to have wildcard domains enabled with your host. Can you confirm that you have this enabled?
Best,
Kimberly

The hosting company says there is a shared SSL on the box yes.
And that it is automatically enabled.
Why are we having trouble then ?

I believe we are not tracking with each other here :)
SSL is not quite the same as wildcard domains. Are you hosting your WHMCS install and your WP install with the same host?

That was just my answer from the hosting company.
I have a hostgator reseller account.
And yes the WHMCS install and wp install is on the same host.
The WHMCS install is on the back of the WP site in question e.g. mysite.com/whmcs
And mysite.com is where we are provisioning the sites from

That being said I asked them about wildcard domains and they pointed me to the following.

How are you trying to create your sites? You will need to enable those if you are creating subdomains.

Doing this could create permalink conflicts. Ensure you avoid that.
I think we need some more information here to help better.
So you have WHMCS installed in a subfolder of your site?
You have the modules installed on WHMCS which we include with our plugin? And our plugin installed on WP Multisite?
And you have the servers setup/configured as described in our documents?
Are the sites created in the backend of WordPress?
Is it just an error when trying to view the site, if so whats the error?
If you are using a subdomain version of WordPress you will need a wild card on that domain.
Let me know.
Take care.

Ok here is the questions from my programmer. I was actually a bit off the mark with the initially questioning.
the sites are provisioned on the multisite
the issue is that no cname records are being created for the newly registered domains to point to the wp sites
and the domain mapping plugin isn't automatic from what i can tell .. it requires the site owner to map it themselves which is no good
we need to know if there's something we overlooked or if there's somewhere we can integrate custom code to do that

Can you make sure you are
- Using the Portal Theme
- and using the right WHMCS domain.
These two are the most common issues for blogs not creating.
You also do not need the http:// in one of the settings, i can't recall which, perhaps Tim can verify :)

Hey there.
Our plugin doesn't do anything with CNAMEs. You would need to consult with WHMCS direct about how they handle DNS records and CNAMEs for domains.
If you followed the usage instructions and have Domain Name mapping installed then it will add the domain for the customer.
The A Record or CNAME is still handled by WHMCS.
Take care.
