I've been told that I need an SSL Certificate.
I would love to know who told you that and the logic behind it. One may be wanted by someone but it;s not required.
Are they reporting some specific error that they're receiving? May be a security issue with their network that doesn;t allow them to fill in forms. Of course if that was true, Google wouldn;t work either for them.

The latest complaint was from a member who does work with schools. Supposedly some of the employees at some schools are unable to access the site.
Another complaint came from a would-be member who said their browser wouldn't let them open the site because it wasn't "secure"

Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like your ip may be on some blacklists. Schools are always using those. Is it a shared IP?
They probably entered https in their browser, or clicked a link that had it: https://housingstorm.com/
It is best to configure the server to not work with port 443 unless you have a valid certificate.
