Is there a way to place a word limit on the portion that displays in the Status widget, with a "read more" type link? I.e., to make the widget show only an excerpt for long worded status updates?

Hey there.
This feature isn't currently available unfortunately, but it does make perfect sense to have this in the widget itself along with a custom read me text field. Otherwise it would be incredibly long.
I'll ask our developer if he can incorporate this in coming version.
Take care.

BTW, as long as your making suggestions to the developer, how about adding a "nofollow" option? Use of this plugin certainly encourages out bound links, and I'd like to minimize the possible neg SEO impact. Thanks!

Hello,
As for breaking the content into sections, would the standard WordPress "<!--more-->" tag work for your scenario? As opposed to standard WP post editor, the plugin interface lacks a button for it - however, the posts created by Status plugin are processed just like standard posts, so breaking your content with the "<!--more-->" tag should work.
As for the "nofollow" option, that's a very nice idea and we'll definitely be including that in the next plugin release.

Awesome on both counts. Yes I can use the standard more tag and thanks for including the nofollow option on your next release!

Hello,
Just a quick update, the latest plugin release (v1.5, just released) includes adding "nofollow" to your external links in plugin settings.

I tested it and I love it! This plugin now does everything that I can't get Buddypress to do, i.e., multisite subdomain specific activity streams, and activity plus-like widget post form. It's awesome!! Thank you Vlad!!!

I think these features make this plugin have huge potential. This allows people who don't want to go full commitment to Buddypress have some of the same utility. Alternatively, it allows people who are using Buddypress to get better integration with WP, especially multisite networks, e.g., by faciliting blog specific status updates. It gives Admins the greater control they have over posts compared to BP status updates. These new widgets and widget features allow me to fully integrate it into my theme. This plugin is powerful!!! I'm stoked. There was Vlad the Impaler and there is WPMUDEV's Vlad the Impluginator!!!
