Automatically Resize Insanely Large Image Uploads
Do you have blog contributors or authors who are in the habit of uploading any size image without checking how big it is or bothering to resize it? Or perhaps you are guilty of this digital crime. Imsanity is a new plugin that will help you start to be a bit more economical with your images. It automatically resizes insanely large image uploads down to a more reasonable size.
Here’s how it works. The plugin is configurable with a max width and height. Whenever anyone uploads an image that is larger than the size you set, Imsanity will scale it down to the max size automatically and remove the original image. The default WordPress behavior is actually to automatically create up to 3 smaller sized copies of the file. In the media browser and gallery you can select “large” “medium” and “thumbnail” when inserting, but the original image is also saved, just taking up space. Inmsanity changes this behavior so that it doesn’t save the original. It only saves the largest size set in your configuration.
- Automatically scales large image uploads to a more “sane” size
- Allows configuration of max width/height
- Once enabled, Imsanity requires no actions on the part of the user
- Uses WordPress built-in image scaling functions
If your site is primarily a blog or business site, then you’re just using these images on the web – they don’t need to be insanely large and there’s no need to store the original on your server. Save some space and install Imsanity today.
