Embed Spotify Playlists, Albums and Tracks in WordPress

A couple months ago I posted a tutorial on How to Display Your Latest Spotify Activity in WordPress, which was based on Last.fm scrobbling. Since that time, Spotify has announced its new API.

Spotify Embed is one of the first WordPress plugins to make use of the Spotify API for embedding music. Once you have the plugin installed, all you have to do is paste a Spotify link into your posts and the plugin will insert the Spotify Play Button for you.

Check out how easy it is to use:

Track:
When you want to embed a track, you would simply paste the track URL:

http://open.spotify.com/track/4IJUii1lg0IRLBs0yG1w2p

Album embed:

http://open.spotify.com/album/4pT0rlFvHYc46KyEhmCy88

Playlist embed:

http://open.spotify.com/user/sonymusic/playlist/1BVPSd4dynzdlIWehjvkPj

Here’s an example embedded playlist:

While the above screenshot is just an image, when you have the plugin active in your WordPress site, the playlist will be clickable. Visitors to your site will be able to play the music by clicking on your embedded track, album or playlist.

There are also several customization options, most of which you can find under the plugin’s FAQs. If you prefer the embeds to use the light theme, you can specify that by wrapping your link in the embed shortcode. Using the shortcode also allows you to elect to show cover art and customize the size of the embed box.

If you like to let people know what you’re listening to on Spotify then this is a must-have plugin for you. That is, if you don’t mind publicizing your embarrassing penchant for saccharine pop or musical theatre. ;) Spotify Embed is available for free from the WordPress plugin repository. Add it to your site and have fun embedding your own custom playlists.

Like the plugin? Drop a note to Dominik, the developer, on Twitter to say thank you.
