So, what does 2011 hold for WPMU DEV?

So, we couldn’t have been happier with the response level that we got to the 2011 survey!

Not only did we get a great deal of statistical information about what you guys are after, but we also got over 26,000 words of written feedback… which was frankly mind-blowing.

And, as a result, we’ve crunched the numbers and come up with a pretty serious plan for what we’re going to be doing, aiming for and generally cracking on with in 2011.

And we figured we’d share that with you here and ask for your feedback, in this (the overview) post and in some more detailed posts by Siobhan which will be coming up shortly.

So, without further ado, here’s the plan, as it stands:

It’s time WPMU DEV came out of the ‘MU’ shadows

Of course WPMU DEV got started with MU, and now supports and continues to develop the widest range of Multisite (and BuddyPress) plugins and themes out there, but we’re much more than that now.

Over 90% of our plugins are WordPress (single user) ready and we’re continuing to develop what we think are the best ecommerce, membership and other core single site WordPress plugins on the web.

So it’s time that we started being viewed as a site for *any* WordPress user who’s looking for professional, updated, quality and fully supported plugins… watch out world!

It’s the plugins, stupid

Over and over and over again we heard, and it’s become clear, that people join WPMU DEV for the plugins.

Sure, we offer some great themes, theme packs and of course the widest range of BuddyPress themes out there but fundamentally, you come to us for the plugins.

So, why fight against the tide? We’re committed to maintaining all of our existing themes, and supplying some great new Multisite and BuddyPress front page ones (that’ll make your mouth water) but let’s leave the core theme market to the themesters, we’ll take plugins thanks.

And with the extra design resources this frees us up to add to our plugins, they are gonna be darn fine looking ones too!

And plenty of them too, and quickly, thankyouverymuch

One of the side effects of doing such massive development on individual plugins in 2010 was that our release cycle slowed down a little… well that’s going to be a thing of the past.

We’re going to be focused this year on delivering frequent new and innovative releases and updates to existing plugins.

It’s literally going to be a case of us banging out what members are after, with as much speed as possible, I’d like to see us offering over 150 plugins by the end of the year.

So, if you’re a member, get down to the request forum, and get asking.

You want services, we’re going to give you services

You told us that you wanted ongoing services from us with your active membership, and by gad we’re going to give them to you.

I’ll let Siobhan go over these in more detail, but suffice to say that there are going to be plenty more reasons you want to continue being a WPMU DEV member very shortly, and even better…

We’re absolutely not going to increase our prices

Yep, you heard it here first, WPMU DEV prices will be sticking right where they are for the third year in a row.

You want to pay $200 for a directory plugin / theme, sod that you can get ours for $39, or that plus over 250 other plugins and themes for just $79.

$297 for a multi domain license to use a Membership plugin… you’re joking right, here’s one that does everything that the others do for $39, chew on that!

Oh, and of course you can use it on as many domains as you like, heck, you can give it to your friends if you want.

And howabout ecommerce, $195 + extras… guess what we’ve got for just $39 :)

We’re going to take support to the next level

Sure, we’ve already got the most used premium wordpress support forums on the web, but we’re making them even better.

We’re introducing ticket systems, dedicating new staff and working our arses off to make sure that the WPMU DEV support experience is second to none.

You gave us 87% satisfaction with the forums in the survey, we want 95%+.

Oh, and did I mention the continued expansion and improvement of our live support!!!

And there’s something special that’s going to be added to the mix too… but I’ll leave announcing that to Siobhan.

So, in short, 2011 is going to rock out in WPMU DEV

Did you know that we’re the largest WordPress Development team outside of Automattic, that WPMU DEV is the most widely used premium plugin provider on the web and that we run the second largest WordPress host in the world in Edublogs.

Well, in 2011 we’re aiming to build on that, and bring you, as a WPMU DEV member, the best possible service, quality plugins, outstanding support and all round goodness that we can.

Bring it on!
