Creating a Limited Time Offer on Your Site with Social Marketing and Scheduled Content
Offering discounts and free products or services to potential customers is a powerful way to increase interest in you and your business.
But when you make your offer available for a limited time only, well, interest is likely to skyrocket. The psychology behind this is that the scarcity of something, whether it be food, resources, or even missing out on a huge sale, pushes our biological buttons and we feel the need to act quickly in order to survive.
In today’s post we’re going to look at how to capitalize on this concept using our Social Marketing and Schedule Selected Content plugins. We’re going to create an unmissable limited time offer encouraging users to like our social media accounts and in return get access to a special discount. Let’s get started!
Social Marketing and Schedule Selected Content
Social Marketing let’s you quickly build a buzz around your business by offering incentives to users who share your products or services on the major social networks, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or LinkedIn.
The plugin works by displaying an advertisement directly on your site, then as an in-line pop-up with social media sharing icons. When a visitor shares your offer, it’s revealed to him/her with a message.
The ads are easy to combine with your posts and pages using shortcodes. They are also easily customizable based on the many options you choose when you create your ad.
Schedule Selected Content lets you schedule content to display on your site at any time you set in the future.
Together, the plugins allow you to create and schedule your limited time social media offer.
For this tutorial, I’m going to create an offer for my imaginary business Brilliant Web Design to demonstrate how to set up these plugins.
I’m going to create an add offering a coupon for a free, premium image gallery plugin, plus one month of support with 50% off a pre-made site template. It will only be available in a flash sale lasting 24 hours and ending at midnight.
Set Up Social Marketing
When you activate the Social Marketing plugin, you’ll be redirected to its setup guide. Three steps will be listed to complete your first ad:
- Configure the Settings – This will set up the basics for your ad, such as its appearance and loading options.
- Create Your Ad – Your advert will take shape here after you add the content and details.
- Insert Your Ad – A shortcode will be provided so you can insert your ad anywhere on your site.
Click the Configure your settings button to set the options how you prefer.
You can either choose from one of the pre-made templates or use your site’s current stylesheet to create your advertisements. I should also mention that the lazy dependency loading option will – when enabled – load elements of your ad as they are needed to reduce your site’s load time.
Once you’re happy with the selections you have made, click the Save Changes and go back to Tutorial button at the bottom of the page.
Create Your Ad
Next, click the Create Advert button on the Getting Started page. You’ll notice the same WYSIWYG editor just like the one available for posts and pages except there are a few additional options below the editor.
Enter a title and content for your ad. Both fields will be shown on the front end. Enter your desired settings, but before you click Publish, it’s time to insert and schedule your ad.

Displaying Your Limited Time Offer
Create a new post or page, or open an existing post or page, where you would like to display your offer. (You can also show your ad in an in-line pop-up using our PopUp Pro plugin, but that’s a post for another time).
Select an area where you would like to display your ad and click Insert Social Ad next to the Add Media button above the editor.
An in-line pop-up will appear where you can choose the alignment followed by clicking the Insert Social Ad button next to the ad you want displayed. Clicking the Advanced link will display additional options where you can add CSS classes to use in your styles.css file.
A shortcode will be placed in the editor. Now it’s time to schedule your ad – no pun intended.
Scheduling Your Offer for a Limited Time
Highlight the shortcode. Above the visual editor, you should see a button available to schedule your ad beside the Toggle Toolbar icon. Click on it.
An in-line pop-up will appear where you can enter your desired dates and times for running your limited time offer.
Once you’re happy with your selections, click the Insert button at the bottom, right of the pop-up. Just click the Update or Publish button to display your ad to everyone.
