    Hello @jsegal,

    I hope you're well today and thank you for your question!

    It's really hard to tell without examining the site in question but here's a couple of most common issues you may want to check your site for:

    1. On your dashboard's "Settings" -> "General" page:
    - does the WordPress Address (URL) and "Site Address (URL)" match your actual site address (including protocol part which means "http://" or "https://" part)?

    2. Is there a .htaccess file present inside the root folder of your WordPress install?

    3. Does the .htaccess file content match the content given here:

    However, ass you noted that this 404 error is intermittent, most likely this might be either a "cache" issue or the server limits (such as bandwith, php max script execution time or memory limit) might be reached.

    That being said, if none of the aforementioned things helps, please try the following steps:

    1. Disable all the caching plugins such as W3 Total Cache if you're using any and delete all caches

    2. Edit your wp-config.php file adding this line:

    define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

    If similar line is already there, please rise the value (e.g. 128M, 256M, 512M)

    3. create "php.ini" file inside the root folder of your WP install and put this line inside:

    ini_set('max_execution_time', 300); //300 seconds = 5 minutes

    Let me know if it helped, please!
