500 Internal Server Error

I was using the Defender Pro plug-in on my site and it went down with a 500 internal server issue warning. I think it might be the ht access file but I don't know how to fix this. Thanks.

    Hi Neemat,

    Sorry to hear you're having this issue :slight_frown:

    Do you remember which action you performed when this happened?

    Can you enable debug log in your wp-config.php file (located in root WP folder) by replacing define('WP_DEBUG', false); with this code:

    // Enable WP_DEBUG mode
    define('WP_DEBUG', true);
    // Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
    define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true);
    // Disable display of errors and warnings
    define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);
    @ini_set( 'display_errors', 0 );

    Visit the site again so it shows 500 error and this should create debug.log file in your wp-content folder that could tell us what is going on.
    Can you please save it as .txt file and attach it here so we can check it out.

    Also, if you think this is related to your .htaccess file, you can create a backup of the current file and then edit the original file and add a default WP rules in there, you can get correct ones for your installation type here:

    Let us know how it goes.

    Thank you very much for the detailed response and help. The problem was resolved. I tried what you said and I also followed other steps to no avail so I had to end up contacting the hosting company and they resolved it. However, the process of trying to solve it was educational so thank you! :slight_smile:
