Adding front page splash/landing to existing site?

Hello – any idea how to add a popup or splash/landing page to an existing site so that if they click on a button like “I’m a Doctor” they go to the main page, but if they click on “I’m a Patient” they go to a totally different site/url?

I don’t want to change the main front page as this might negatively impact search engine indexing that already exists for this site.

Any ideas?

    Greetings kbrady,

    It can be easily done with Pop Up! plugin using hot spot coding as shown in my working in demo here:

    http://aecnuwpmu.us/

    Click on Free software, Free Scripts, or So Click here and it will take you to a different post that I have set the links for.

    The code looks like this:

    <map name="FPMap0">
    <area href="http://aecnuwpmu.us/free-software/" shape="rect" coords="26, 90, 440, 173">
    <area href="http://aecnuwpmu.us/free-scripts/" shape="rect" coords="25, 252, 445, 333">
    <area href="http://aecnuwpmu.us/so-click-here/" shape="rect" coords="23, 411, 438, 483">
    </map>
    <img border="0" src="http://aecnuwpmu.us/images/squaregiveaway500.jpg" usemap="#FPMap0" width="500" height="500">

    Hey Joe,

    In that plugin you have implemented, there is an option “Never see this message again”

    Now, can that be removed, and if someone clicks on that, that is not just going away like that, the page goes behind a dull frame and if we refresh to see if it goes, it comes up again…

    Not sure whether this observation has got something to do with the current topic, but I could not help not noticing that.

    Cheers,

    Wow- thanks guys for the quick help on this!! I am testing the popup plugin and it seems to be working great.

    To get it to work as I want, I am setting the popup content to show two hyperlinks: one for DOCTOR, which should close the popup and go to the home page (which is already behind the popup), and a link for PATIENT which directs them to a different website.

    Then, in the rules I have it set for only “visit not via an internal link” – what this seems to do is make the DOCTOR link to the homepage not trigger the popup again, even if I have the # of times to show set to a high number.

    (if this works under different OS/browser conditions I’ll make a pretty box with two graphic buttons for the popup).

    I’m also thinking that I probably don’t need to show this popup if someone types in the domain name directly (they are probably a Doctor as any patients would be given a totally different website address).

    Any thoughts?

    THANKS AGAIN!

    Greetings kbrady,

    Ah what a tangled web we weave :slight_smile:

    I think the answer will be within the rules to get this accomplished, perhaps the Pop over shown less then rule may work for this though if they clear their cookies it would defeat this.

    In addition, the On a specific URL rule may be the total solution with different rules for different URL’s and even more then one pop up.

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe
