Adding New Plugin to Multi-Site Network

We are in the process of developing a multi-site network that will function much like Craigslist with individual sites for various cities. All sites have the same functionality, appearance, etc.

QUESTION:
If we decide to ADD a new plugin to all sites in the network - - - is there a way to quickly and easily set it up to work across the network (by installing in the main site) - or must we go to each individual site to configure the new plugin?

    Hello May,

If we decide to ADD a new plugin to all sites in the network - - - is there a way to quickly and easily set it up to work across the network (by installing in the main site) - or must we go to each individual site to configure the new plugin?

In Multisite WordPress you install plugins (and themes) only in Network dashboard. There you can Network activate them - or not and then they are available for subsite admins to activate (except plugins that works only on Network level).

Configuration is different case - settings are kept in database, so except network level plugins, rest will need to be configured separately on each subsite after activation. If plugin has option to export/import settings then it will be easier, if not then you can maybe try pulling its data from database and import directly to subsites tables.

    kind regards,
    Kasia
