Affiliate Links question…

Now that I configured the banners, is there any way to specify the URL of a squeeze/landing/sales page to direct each banner to go to? Where in the settings do I customize these URLs?

    Hi again!

This is a great question. At this point, I don’t have an easy answer. The Affiliates plugin is meant to be a simple one that doesn’t have much maneuvering. That being said, this is WordPress, so we might be able to edit a php file, if that’s something you’re comfortable with.

    Cheers,

    Paul

Any suggestions on how to begin editing the php? Maybe create a custom field to allow custom input of a url to be used ideally with affiliate tracking? Or for a temporary workaround just allow custom url to replace the affiliate link? Maybe this can be a feature request?

Aaron, thanks for your help and suggestion!

I see that adding this line will basically make all the affiliate links associated with every affiliate image “http://yoursite.com/yourlink/ <insert affiliate stuff>”

But what if the base URL is different for each image I’m sharing with the network?

As a feature request maybe it would make sense to have two fields per image in the plugin settings…

#1 field – URL to the image

#2 field – the base URL of the affiliate link

And even more advanced customization would allow the user to specify what strings to attached behind the base URL for all blog users (instead of needing to hack the code)…

This way they can really customize the affiliate links.

    What do you think?

For now, at least to accomplish #2 do you have any suggested simple workarounds?

    Version 3.1 is now available.

There is a new setting in the affiliate settings page that will allow you to set the url you want the affiliate links to point to. If you want to use a different url per banner then you can set them by adding a | after the banner url and then the url you want it to link to.

    E.g.

    http:/test.site.com/banner1.jpg

Will go to the url set in the affiliate settings page

    http:/test.site.com/banner1.jpg|http://test.site.com/affiliateurltogoto

Will go to the http://test.site.com/affiliateurltogoto (it will actually go to http://test.site.com/affiliateurltogoto?ref=theaffiliatereference )
