Affiliates Plugin Questions

Hi support,

I'm using Pro-sites with Multisite and looking at options for an affiliate program. I believe that the WPMU affiliates plugin is easily integrated with pro-sites but users need to be registered on the site to become affiliates. Since I don't offer free accounts, I'm assuming that I can't have affiliates who are non-members (i.e. paying pro-sites members) - is this correct?

Secondly, I've found a plugin that looks great on the WP repository: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/affiliates/. The things I really like about this second plugin are:

- Affiliates can register without needed to be members.
- There's an external page they can log into and access their affiliate links and stats rather than go through the site backend dashboard.

So my question is basically twofold: i) can the WPMU affiliate plugin be configured to deliver the same functionality as listed in the two points above and ii) Can the affiliates plugin on the WP repository be modified to integrate with Pro-sites? If so, how...

I'm happy to do any coding and customisation at this end, but just wanted to be sure about this before going further.

Many thanks,
Dee

    Hey there.

I'm assuming that I can't have affiliates who are non-members (i.e. paying pro-sites members) - is this correct?

That's correct, they are WP members for this.

There is kind of a way around this. Create a custom role:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-role-editor/

Create a new form with something like Gravity or Formidable and call it an Affiliate registration form and use that to assign them a new role of "Affiliate". So they are still get a new account but with a custom role and no access to anything unless of course you gave them that.

    Gravity Forms:

    http://gravityforms.com

    Formidable Pro

    http://formidablepro.com

    It's an option for ya.

Can the affiliates plugin on the WP repository be modified to integrate with Pro-sites?

    I don't use that plugin so I wouldn't know.

Do they offer some code you can embed somewhere?

A long time ago i used jrox for a project:

    http://jam.jrox.com/

They provided some code you could embed on the return page from the checkout (the page you get once payment is made) and that use to work well with with OSCommerce and ZenCart.

I wonder if this plugin you mention does something similar. It would be worth looking at how they integrate with any cart and then assess what is needed.

    Take care.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I'll look into the user roles which would meet part of the requirement but still need affiliates to log into the back end to get their links and stats.

The affiliates plugin I looked at has a Paypal gateway integrated - so I'll probably start by raising a question with their support since they specialise with integrations into various other carts etc.

Hopefully will come back with some good news to report.

Ps. Will take a look into jrox too, thanks.

    all the best,
    Dee
