Anyone have experience with Templatic Directory Theme?

Unfortunately I have a year's worth of experience with Templatic theme and I wonder if anyone else has had experience. Ridiculously thinking to try it on a multisite which I have no experience with. I have researched every directory theme/plugin that I can find and there's not one that has the functionality that I'd like. I will have to pay for another year of support and updates for Templatic and just not sure it's worth it..... It would probably have been more productive if I'd spent the same amount of time learning PHP
Any developers out there who have experience? This is the current site: http://www.SandhillsGuide.com. Thanks

    Hi there @Jean McLain

Welcome to WPMU DEV, glad to have you aboard!

I have researched every directory theme/plugin that I can find and there's not one that has the functionality that I'd like.

Can you provide more information about exactly what functionality you're after? That seems to be missing from your post above.

This is my present site on Templatic theme: SandhillsGuide.com. While the functionality is the best I've found, the stability is not - every update breaks something. As to functionality: free, claim, paid listings packages - must have subscription capability. Custom fields that can be displayed in listing - ideally have some control over front end display without coding/widget functionality. Tabbed functionality for listing. Video, uploads, image display. Search capability - by category, name, keyword. Bulk import/export.
Ideally, I'd like to offer business listings an option to book appointments, sell a few products off their listing - or possibly a central store. I know, a lot to ask.
I have Listify, but it requires at least an additional $300 to manage subscriptions and custom fields - even more for reviews, etc.
Anyway, that's my wish list - several are so close, but either don't have the capability they advertise, are not stable or cost of plugins required pretty high/not disclosed.

    Hi again @Jean McLain

I hope you had a great weekend! And we appreciate your patience here as we slog through an inordinately large amount of requests.

Ideally, I'd like to offer business listings an option to book appointments, sell a few products off their listing - or possibly a central store. I know, a lot to ask.

I have never personally come across a theme or plugin that has all that functionality built-into a single package. That would require several separate plugins, possibly even a good bit of custom coding to get done exactly as you want it.

However, I have played around with a couple of Directory plugins & themes and, while I cannot really recommend any (as I have not really built any working projects with them), I can offer you a couple of alternatives.

    Directory theme by AIT:
    http://preview.ait-themes.com/directory/wp1/

They do have their own particular way of coding stuff in their themes with their own WP-Latte framework. However, once you get your head around how it works, it enables you to create any kind of variable function you can think of that you can then use anywhere you like throughout the theme, or a child-theme.

Here are a couple of round-up articles with a ton more:
    http://athemes.com/collections/best-directory-wordpress-themes/
    https://colorlib.com/wp/best-directory-wordpress-themes/

Then there's the GeoDirectory plugin which uses the freemium model (free basics with a bunch of paid addons):
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/addons/

    And a few more:

Or, if you really want to go the custom route, you could try Geo My WordPress and build your own solution:

Please let us know if this helps, and don't hesitate to post again if you need to.

Thanks - I've looked into most all of them and while Templatic is painful, at least I'm aware of most of the issues and I own it. We'll see how it goes on a new install. Fingers crossed - thanks for your help. The ideal would be a directory plugin that would play well with other plugins.

Just FYI - I'm about to jump back in and pray that Templatic has fixed some of their MAJOR issues. Not a programmer so can't comment on their code, just know that has been a MAJOR issue. I'll follow up and let you know how it goes.
I have let SandhillsGuide.com go without any updates since it is still "functional" - I am starting several sites with a new install and 2+ yrs of experience with Templatic. Please say a little prayer...

    Hi Jean,
I have used Templatic in the past and had a jobs theme that was plagued with bugs and major coding issues. I am looking again at what they have to offer with their directory theme as it ticks a lot of boxes functionality wise. Would you be able to give me an update as to how you are getting on before I take the plunge?

Other projects have kept me from totally re-engaging with Templatic - probably a sense of dread about what I'm afraid will happen. I haven't found a better solution, although I keep looking. So, this is the week - will let you know how it goes.

Just a follow up - Templatic is history - a long and painful one. I finally realized the only way I could make it work was to become a programmer and that sort of defeats the purpose of using something pre-built.
I am working on AIT Directory theme and hoping that will be easier - can't be worse.

Thank NAME, for their help.

Let NAME know exactly why they deserved these points.

Gift a custom amount of points.
