"Attn: Michael Bissett" I have another question..

See now that's what I'm talking about Rockstar support !!! Nice work Bra!

Here is my ftp for the site:
[removed for security]

1) So when I log out I notice it still leads me back to wordpress login.. I do have ultimate branding so I don't know if this is the answer or if there is another way to get ride of all WP ban dings and logins. but that is the goal.

2) So I noticed that the text above the large video on the front page was black on black background and white on all other pages.. can we get that White on the front page too so the words " Take a serious moment and ask yourself... What's in your financial future?" show up?

3) These last cosmetic things on the front page may be nit picking but would be awesome if it could be done if it was not to difficult. I will upload a image so you can see what I'm taking about but I will give a quick description here too..
a) when you first load the front page you see the header "Gold Rockstars" at the top left, the padding at top thats blue is good but the padding below it in blues is thicker. I would like to see the padding the same top and bottom.
b) At first when page loads, the fold lands right in the middle of the large video, I was wondering if another thin section could be added there in between the gold section and the black section that would lock on to the fold line making the large video in the black area just below the fold.. then maybe I could add another image in that new fold section.. like this. http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Above-the-fold-font-page-image.png
and the background could match the blue with a color code or I could just drop in another image like the specked gray.. like this http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Light-Gray-noise.jpg - I think that would make the site look a lot cleaner than a video cut in half. Then with background and the option for image or color in the CSS I could change the color and the image in the future if I wanted.

There is just not a lot of flexibility with this theme but I'm stuck with it because it was the only thing I could fined that worked with buddy press, wp-mlm and was mobile optimized.

So the last question is how do we do this where it all sticks, so when the next update comes out for the theme it's not all lost again?

I really appreciate you making those last changes and fixing the site for me my friend I knew you where the guy that could make this happen.

Thank you very much

Gratefully

Mark

PS. I also noticed that the image i gave you that you added in that one section on all the other paged had some white around the edges, so here is the image where the white has been cropped off. also I could not find this section in the CSS so I couldn't just do it myself.. Did i miss it or is it somewhere else? I really like the way you outlined everything So i could see what was what in the CSS.. thanks you for that.

thanks again.

let me know where the tip jar is. :slight_smile:

    Hey Netrockstar,

    Hope you are enjoying your weekend so far!

    Glad @Michael Bissett has been able to provide some awesome support for you :slight_smile:

    He is currently offline but I will let him know that you posted this.

    Also, it's best not to post your FTP information in the forum as it's a public forum, I have removed it from your other post as well.

    If you can instead send it through our private contact form directly to Michael. That way he will have it waiting for him when he gets on next and it won't be in the public eye :slight_smile:

    Send in:

    Make sure you select "I have a different question" for your question topic.

    Subject: "Attn: Michael Bissett"
    -WordPress admin username
    -WordPress admin password
    -login url
    -FTP credentials (host/username/password)
    -link back to this thread for reference
    -any other relevant urls

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/

    The subject line and topic ensure that it gets assigned to Michael :slight_smile:

    1) So when I log out I notice it still leads me back to wordpress login.. I do have ultimate branding so I don't know if this is the answer or if there is another way to get ride of all WP ban dings and logins. but that is the goal.

    We have a logout redirect plugin you can use for this: https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/logout-redirect/

    Then you can direct your users to any page you like upon logout.

    2) So I noticed that the text above the large video on the front page was black on black background and white on all other pages.. can we get that White on the front page too so the words " Take a serious moment and ask yourself... What's in your financial future?" show up?

    For this one you can add the following CSS:

    .grs-header-content-title {
    color: #fff;
    }

    That should do it :slight_smile: based on your other thread it looks like you already have a custom stylesheet. I logged in and went ahead and placed that code in there. Hope you don't mind!

    a) when you first load the front page you see the header "Gold Rockstars" at the top left, the padding at top thats blue is good but the padding below it in blues is thicker. I would like to see the padding the same top and bottom.

    For this one add this CSS:

    #top-bg {
    padding: 20px 0 0 !important;
    }

    *I also went ahead and added this one for you.

    b) At first page load the fold lands right in the middle of the large video, I was wondering if another thin section could be added there a between the gold section and the black section the would lock on to the fold line making the late video black area just below the fold.. then maybe I could add another image in that new fold section.. like this.

    I'm wondering if this one might be easiest to just add your image inside the same content container you have the video. Add it above it like this:

    <img src=http://domain.com/yourimage.jpg >

    We can stretch out that one section so it goes full width and gives the look of having two separate areas :slight_smile:

    So the last question is how do we do this where it all sticks, so when the next update comes out for the theme it's not all lost again?

    Since all the CSS is placed in the custom CSS plugin you won't have to worry about any of that getting erased on updates, and the image you place in that content area should save as well because your theme won't be removing any of the content on update - at least it shouldn't.

    As for the last part there I'm not entirely sure where Mike placed that either. I will let him replace it to make sure the previous one is removed :slight_smile:

    I know this was for Michael but hope you didn't mind me chiming in on this one! If you send him in the FTP info through the method above then he will receive it.

    Have a great rest of your weekend!

    All the best,
    Tyler

    Hey Netrockstar,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    The whole forum is public. Including all the feeds.

    When we request credentials like FTP, they should be sent in through our private contact form: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/

    Then make sure you select "I have a different question" for your topic. If you select "Support question" you will get directed back to the forums.

    Hope this clears it up!

    Not sure if this was the post you originally went off of, but when you send it in again you can fill it out as Michael asked here:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/custom-buddy-press-logins-and-conflicting-plugins-with-cache#post-734751

    Then just make sure you select "I have a different question" and you will be all good to go :slight_smile:

    Let me know if you have any other questions on that.

    All the best,
    Tyler

  • Netrockstar

    Ok thanks I just sent you a message thru that private contact form with the new password. and another question you might have the answer to.

    I was also wondering if we can make the same trick work for the gradient gold to black section up top.. it does not have even padding also.. maybe we can add some Some more to the CSS that centers it of trims it down to make the padding equal,,

    thanks again for knocking that other stuff out so fast. Looks like we have a couple of support Rockstars in the house.

    Had a hard time finding my way back here.. hope this is the right spot?

    So I was thinking to use this as the background: http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/225x225-background-lite-gray-noise-for-new-section-between-top-gold-and-large-video-black.png

    and I was going to use this as a transparent png over the top and centered as the image: http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/New-section-between-the-gold-and-the-black-section.png

    I don't really understand how you are thinking it can just go over the video section in the same section but if it works great.. there is the Mobile Optimization thing I have to keep in mind. I was thinking we where going to have to add another section between the to in the style sheet and add some more code to the Custom CSS section.

    let me know it these images can work.

    Thanks again for the help.. looks like Michael is getting the day off.. but your doing a great job and it's all working out fine.

    This is what it looks like now when you load the page..
    http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/better-alinement-of-the-fold-and-header1.png

  • Netrockstar

    Well i was working with Michael Bissett first but then Tyler Postle started helping out because Michael was gone.. Tyler is doing a great joab now and I think I got an email from him this morning at 11:30 saying that Michael Bissett might be taking a Sunday off so he was following up with me with this last task we where trying to accomplish..

    The task at hand is to add a section between to existing section on the front page openly. Just below the Gold section an above the Black Section I was trying to fix the problem of the black section and the large video being cut in half at the fold.. So by adding a new section that would be thiner and could lock onto the fold to make things look cleaner when you load the page..

    I gave the background i=mage and I also gave the transparent image that would center above the back ground.. I was thinking the it would have to be added to the stylesheet or like everything else that has been don to this point in the custom CSS plugin section.. The reason for this is because every time the them is updated all the work was lost because it was getting put in the function.php so it needs to be not affected when the theme is updated.

    thanks for your help and chiming in I'm not sure if Tyler is still working on it or if he is in today too? either way if anyone can figure this one out it would be much appreciated. thanks :slight_smile:

    Here are the two images I was trying to add as a new section

    So I was thinking to use this as the background: http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/225x225-background-lite-gray-noise-for-new-section-between-top-gold-and-large-video-black.png

    and I was going to use this as a transparent png over the top and centered as the image: http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/New-section-between-the-gold-and-the-black-section.png

    this is what I want it to look like when the page is loaded:
    http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/and-this-is-what-I-want-it-to-look-like.png

    and this is the way it looks now:
    http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/better-alinement-of-the-fold-and-header1.png

    And when it was all finished it would look like this:

  • Michelle Shull

    Hey there!

    @Tyler Postle is around a LOT, but I think he's taking a few hours to sleep and feed himself. : ) He's our late night man (well, in my time zone, at least.)

    Since this is being handled so well in email, I'm going to jump in with a suggestion to use a child theme (they're so easy to make, you can do it in less than ten minutes, even if you're a noobie) http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes#How_to_Create_a_Child_Theme

    With a child theme, you can just drop a copy of functions.php into the child folder, then it's safe whenever you update, so no more frantic edits every time your theme updates.

    I had to learn this lesson the hard way myself, way back when I was a WP noobie, but now I never, ever use a theme without making a child first.

    Take care, and thanks for being such a great member. : )

  • Netrockstar

    Ok so I have never don this before and will it work with Buddypress, WP-MLM, and all the other plugins I have one the site right now? also the main reason I am using this theme, I guess the only reason is it works with all theses plugins and it is Mobile optimized.. So what do you think on this..

    I Don't want to sound to lame but I have zero experience in creating themes. lol

    thank you for your help

    Gratefully

    Mark

    PS. the child theme should like a good idea for making sure you don't loose customizations at update for sure.. i not exactly sure I wont break things trying.. but how do I add that sanction and keep it mobile optimized and responsive? Dose the Transparent image that would go over the background, do they need to be three separate images? it just looks bad the way it is because the video in cut in half at the fold and looks tacky :slight_smile:

  • Michelle Shull

    No problem! I'm more than happy to help! We were all noobs once, right? I'd never have learned as much as I know now without the help of lots and lots of people. That's why I love my job so much, it lets me pay a lot of goodwill forward. : )

    Using a child theme will not hurt your plugins or any of your settings at all. You may need to resave your menu, or perhaps tweak your widgets a little, but all a child theme does is serve up replacement files for files in your theme folder. Your site is still using MOST of the files in the original theme, and ALL your plugin files, it's just using your edited files instead of the original files for the styling and functions you've added. Cool, huh? Child themes are the greatest thing ever, once you make the switch, you'll never ever go back.

    Plus, if you ever need to go back to your parent theme, all you have to do is switch to the parent theme from the child theme on your themes page. Easy peasy.

    After you set up the child theme, you'll need to copy over any theme files you've made edits to, in your case that sounds like it's just functions.php. If you've changed your template files, like index.php or comments.php, you'll need to copy those, as well.

    When you need to make any styling changes in the future, you can go to Themes > Editor, and you'll have a custom CSS file ready for you to play with as much as you want. All without modifying any part of the parent theme, so it can update all day long without erasing your hard work.

    Let me know if you have any other questions! I love this stuff, I can talk about it all day.

    Take care!

  • Netrockstar

    I really appreciate all the insight here on the ways to do tis in a manner that does not get messed up or deleted in the future.. The child theme seems to be the way to go when it comes to making extensive changes to other people themes that are subject to updates all the time..

    for the sake of not messing up my site I'm going to wait till I can figure out what Tyler Postle is planning for this new section. So fare I think all changes have been added to the Custom CSS plugin section and should nt be disturbed when the next update comes. So I've been told anyways. If that is true Im very happy.. just need to figure out how to add that new section so the front page is not cut off at the fold. other than that they have done a awesome job and Im totally stoked!!!

    The next task I'm going to have to so after this is figured out is to get me news letter plugin going so I can start sending messages to the members.
    and I need to activate the membership plugin in such a way that it does not mess with my WP MLM team builder plugin..

    Hey Mark,

    Hope your Sunday is going well!

    Okay, so in the content box where your home page video is(in the black section) I have added some additional code to create a new section with that image you sent me in it. The code is as follows:

    <div id="new-section"><img src="http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/New-section-between-the-gold-and-the-black-section.png" class="home-image" ></div>

    Then I applied the following CSS to it which you will see in your custom CSS sheet:

    /* Increasing max width of video content area */

    #top-content, #wrap-top-content, #content-top-content {
    max-width: 100% !important;
    }

    /* new section above home page video */

    #new-section {
      background: url("http://goldrockstars.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/225x225-background-lite-gray-noise-for-new-section-between-top-gold-and-large-video-black.png") repeat-x right top;
      margin-bottom: 25px;
      width: 100%;
    }

    .one-community {
      padding-top: 0 !important;
      width: 100% !important;
      padding-left: 0 !important;
      padding-right: 0 !important;
    }

    /* centering new section content */

    .home-image {
      margin-left: auto;
      margin-right: auto;
      display: block;
    }

    You will notice I added the background you wanted in there.

    Take a look and let us know if you need any further assistance with that!

    As for the other image you wanted replaced, I'm still not entirely sure where Michael placed that one. He will be back tomorrow and we'll find out :slight_smile:

    Hope that helps!

    All the best,
    Tyler

    PS. As Michelle mentioned, Sundays I don't usually put in a full shift, so kind of off and on :slight_smile: look forward to hearing back.

  • Netrockstar

    So I have left a few messages but we are back to the running in circles and I can seem to find the right place to get the help I need to finish some of the issues I have been having with the site. thanks Tyler for helping me put the image on the front like I asked for and the backgrounds all is what I asked for..

    unfortunately the images are making my site NOT mobile responsive because they are hanging way off to the right on all mobile devices. I did type a response here and also with the contact form asking att: to you with another question but never got any response. I think someone else keeps deleting it.

    any ways I need a way to add to the Custom CSS to brake that image into 3 separate images and code it so that the images stake one over the other to be responsive when the browser narrows down on mobile devices.

    Also I would like that image to openly be on the front page not all of the pages.

    then there is white line around the black image on the front page and I have a image link that I have gave a couple times that does not have the white line only the box. This would solve all the image issues and responsive issues if these can be fixed. I tried to fix this myself in the Custom CSS but could not find the images for either.

    Next I still have that problem when people login to the site they are redirected to the front home page instead of the members dashboard. Is it possible to have people dropped off in the members dashboard at login please?

    Also when people Register for the first time on the site they too are also redirected back to the home page with instructions to check there email that is below the fold and 9 out of 10 people never see it and get lost and give up. I would rather have the new register members be redirected to the welcome page right at signup. this way I can put a video there that auto plays and lets then know exactly where and what to do next. if this could happen it would solve a ton of problems.

    Thank you my friend for helping me straighten this out, it will help very much.

  • Tyler Postle

    Hey Mark,

    Hope you're doing well today! Thanks for posting back on the thread :slight_smile:

    It's always a good idea to post here so it keeps everything together for myself and other staff.

    For the responsiveness on that image, we can add this CSS:

    /* Responsive (portrait and landscape) ----------- */
    @media only screen
    and (min-device-width : 320px)
    and (max-device-width : 900px) {
    .home-image {
    width: 100%;
    }
    }

    That will make sure it doesn't flow off the screen. Since that is only 1 image, we aren't able to have those graphics stack on top of each other. This should be a good alternative for you :slight_smile:

    I have added that CSS now so you can take a look.

    To make the new section only display on the home page I added this CSS:

    /* hide new section on all pages but home */

    #new-section {
      display: none;
    }

    .home #new-section {
      display: block !important;
    }

    I have also swapped out that white bordered image with the new one too :slight_smile:

    Are you wanting them to be redirected to this link? http://goldrockstars.com/members/goldrockstars/recruiting-dashboard/

    You can do that with out login redirect plugin: https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/login-redirect/

    Hope that helps Mark! Hopefully I didn't miss anything here.

    Have a great weekend.

    All the best,
    Tyler
