Blog template.. how do I blog google from crawling the template site?

I don’t want the site that is used as the new blog template being indexed… how do I prevent this?

Thanks!

    Hello there Gina,

Thanks for posting on the forums.

The easiest way is to use robots.txt file and disallow the site you want to block.

http://moz.com/community/q/block-an-entire-subdomain-with-robots-txt is a good post on this.

However you can also use the default privacy setting of the Template blog via Dashboard >> settings >> Privacy settings you can set that that “Do not allow search engines to index”

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

If I use the “Privacy settings you can set that that “Do not allow search engines to index” solution then that setting will copy to new blogs…

Where would I place a robot.txt file for a subdomain created with multisite/buddypress?

    Thanks

    Hey there gina,

    Thanks for posting back.

Or is it possible to redirect a single multisite subdomain to the main site?

Quite possible  You can setup a redirect in your cpanel

or you can also do that using .htaccess

just add the below code :

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^subdomain.mydomain.com$ [NC]
    RewriteRule ^ http://mydomain.com/ [L,R]

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

    Cheers, PC
