Buddypress @tagging for members and groups

Hello,

Is there a way to enable site-wide tagging of members and groups by using @tags? I am looking to ensure that these tags can be inserted into any text area on a website and for it work for both members' and groups' names.

    Hello again Christopher,

Taking a look at my test install of BuddyPress on WordPress, I'm seeing that tagging is functional in both the WordPress editors and the BuddyPress front-end.

However, I did notice that the native WordPress search form did not respond to @tags. Perhaps the following plugin will help in this situation?

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any solutions to this yet. While tagging seems to be a possibility in most places, I'm especially looking to see if there's a way to implement it in custom post types. Much like how i can tag users in this very post, it'd be so, so helpful if i could tag both users and buddypress groups in a custom post field. Is there anything out there for this sort of thing?

    Hello Christopher,

Unfortunately, while I was researching your ticket, I was unable to find anything current to accomplish this. There was some mention of tagging, but that was from years ago and much of that functionality is already built into WordPress as I've mentioned in my original comment. I'm afraid to add this would require some custom coding.

You may want to try our member's forums to see if any other members have been able to come up with a solution to this need. Otherwise, you could post a job request on the Jobs & Pros board where you could hire a fellow member to custom develop a solution for you. Please note that the Pros on the Jobs board are not associated with WPMU DEV.
