Can I create an event listing site where users add the events with Events+?

I would like to know if I could build an event website where the end user can add events. I don't need a registration process as I would just have a link to the users website. I want the site to be an event listing or advertising site and include a listing for the business placing the event. Can Events+ do this?

    Hi miggitty,

I haven't used the Events+ plugin in this way, but off the bat I think it will support your requirement.

It has a front page editor so you don't require users to go to the dashboard.

It supports various forms of payment as well as free events.

    It has Google maps integration

One thought though, are sure you want to allow anyone to post on the site without registration? It's seems to be an invitation for spam

    Cheers

    Hey there.

There is an addon within Events+ which lets you edit capabilities, but your users must have a role within the site to be affected.

They can't post without logging in other words.

There is a way though, this is a custom post type and as such forms like Gravity Forms:

    http://gravityforms.com

    Or Formidable Pro:

    http://formidablepro.com

Will work, you can create a custom forms to with those to submit to custom post types.

    That way anyone can submit.

Another option to look at and you'd have to test as I'm not sure but that's a role editor plugin like:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-role-editor/

You might be able to edit anonymous roles, I'm not sure.

Open registration will be an invitation to be attacked with spam.

    Take care.

To Clarify, I want the user to be able to login into edit the event which would require a username and password so they can make changes if required.

How can I stop spam attacks if I allow editing, even with a username and password. I just don't want to have to edit each listing before going live. I would like to approve each listing though.

Also If there is a change made, can approve that change?

    Thanks.

    Hey again.

You can find a list of the WordPress capabilities here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities

Basically you're editing those with the addon.

    The addon is found in:

    Admin --> Events --> Settings

You need to activate it there.

My sandbox site requires sign up to comment and post on new things, it's hit around the clock. Sometimes when testing I open it for blog registration and it fills up real quick. This site isn't a publicised site either, it's just one I use to test things with.

Forcing registration will lower the amount of spam but probably won't stop it. There are a number of plugins which target different things like our Anti Splog if you use multisite:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/anti-splog/

    Or Comment Spam:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/comment-spam-pack/

There is also Akismet (comment spam) which comes with WordPress and plugins like Wanguard. All of these can help for spam.

    Take care.
