Can someone advise me on a stock photo membeship site?

Hi,

Can someone advise me on a stock photo membeship site? Is there a theme or plugin or both that will allow me to sell stock photos online and a download basis?

I checked out a company called graphpaperpress.com and they have a theme that can do exactly what I need for a fee.

But I would like to know if there are alternatives into putting together a stock photo membership site or e-commerce site. Possibly use the resources here from WPMU.

Please advise me. Im all ears.

Thanks,

Virgil

    Hi @virgil,

    There’s a few about, http://themeforest.net/item/ipictures-stock-images-website/4670659

We do have a portfolio theme, though I wouldn’t say it’s suited for stock photo’s.

Marketpress can certainly be utilised for selling images though, you can set the product as a download/digital item, so when it’s purchased, the buyer receives a link where they can download from. https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/e-commerce/#usage

    There’s also some themes/plugins here.

    Hope this helps

    Virgil,

Maybe you’ve seen this, maybe you haven’t. In addition to the list, I found the comments quite valuable, as these are working photographers in the field.

As much fun as it is to set up your own website to do this, there’s a lot to be said for “they already have the infrastructure in place.”

Furthermore, I don’t think any of these sites make you sign an exclusive deal, so you could probably set up an account at EACH ONE, and then, depending on how well you do, you’re pretty much maximizing that income stream IMMEDIATELY.

Because there’s ALSO a lot to be said for “Where do people go to download stock photos?” Because where they go is also where they spend their money.

Anyway, that’s how I’d do it.

    Good luck, sir!

    Cheers,

    Edward

    Hello,

Thanks for the response. It was very helpful. All I really wanted was to setup and makeshift ecommerce site that I can put up to ell photos.

I want to just email someone the pass/username and then look at the photos. After that, if they want to, they can buy the photos online. I was thinking that marketpress can do this for me.

    Thanks again,

Yes, you can use MarketPress for that. You’ll simply have to create “preview” images of your stock photos and add them on your products featured image field so your clients can browse the images.

After that, you can put the full-size image as a link on the downloadable product field.

    I hope that helps!

    Cheers,

    Ari.

    Well, yes, it can. 8)

I guess my suggestions were coming from my sense of a business standpoint. If I wanted to sell x, I would start by looking at where people were buying x, and where I would have to do the least amount of work to start making money (my time spent fiddling with a site is time not spent creating product). Most of these other sites do all the thumbnail resizing and have their own payment portals, and so forth.

But, of course, your business needs are your own! 8)

    Sorry if I overcomplicated it.
