Hello,

I've taken a look at this for you and I think the main problem has to do with the settings configured on your facebook app settings. The pages on your site are no properly connecting to the facebook API. They are trying to connect over SSL, but can't because the site isn't setup to use it.

From the facebook app dashboard under the "advanced" page, take a look at the setting "Stream post URL security"

Can you make sure it's switched to disabled? From what I can tell, this should fix it. If not, could you send screenshots of the settings you have on facebook?

Stream post URL security is disabled in facebook app settings.

I tried to like another article and went to the timeline, and tried to click on the "bad looking" logo and got an error. See enclosed picture. Tried the debug feature for facebook developers and got this message:

Errors That Must Be Fixed
Missing Required Property: The 'og:url' property is required, but not present.

and

Open Graph Warnings That Should Be Fixed
Inferred Property: The 'og:url' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Inferred Property: The 'og:title' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

Does this help, or do you want screenshots from the app settings?

Hello Jasper, I'm sorry for the delayed response. The reason the like button, and the comments box don't display properly is because there is a mismatch in how the iframe is loaded, and how that iframe is trying to load the javascript responsible for making those buttons work.

I think that's what's giving the "og:url must be present" error as well. It loads the widgets, but can't communicate anymore with the facebook API because that javascript file isn't being loaded.

If you want to take a peek at what I'm talking about, in Google Chrome you can open the developer tools and switch to the console tab. You'll see the error messages where the iframe wasn't able to "GET" the javascript.

Without seeing the other facebook settings it's kind of hard to see what's going on here. However, I do have one idea: I might have been wrong about the Stream post security before. Can you try turning it on and see if that makes a difference? Thanks! Again, I apologize for the delayed response getting back to you

I tried to turn "Stream post security" on, but still the links and logo are wrong.. :slight_frown:

Can I add you as a developer on the facebook app (adding your facebook profile)? This way around might speed up the error handling.

Else I will make another pdf will all the settings (there are many..)

From the App settings, go to "edit roles" then add an administrator. You can enter my facebook ID: 574266809 without having to friend request.

Ok, I found why you're logo doesn't look right. It's using the smaller versions that can be changed from the "App details page".

After reviewing your settings on both wordpress and facebook, I still haven't found what's causing this problem. I've tested this myself on my development machine and it works properly, so I'm not quite sure where the problem is. I'm going to get in touch with the plugin developer to ask for his feedback on this issue. The screenshot I'm attaching is the error message I found in case it's useful for him.

In addition, I noticed there's a conflicting set of OpenGraph tags on the site - one coming from Yoast SEO plugin, one coming from our plugin. The og:url property is duplicated, which likely caused the issues you experienced. I suggest you get rid of one or the other. Ultimate Facebook has an option to disable the OpenGraph support, and I'm not sure if and how you can do the same in the other plugin. As to which set to turn off, I could be partial to the OpenGraph support in our plugin, of course, but I suggest to keep that one if at all possible because the Yoast one apparently doesn't do og:description and og:image at all, so when someone shares/likes your post it's a gamble what will Facebook display.

Please note, Facebook caches your pages for a while when someone likes/shares them. This cache expires after a while, but it can be confusing when testing things such as OpenGraph changes. Thankfully, there's a tool from Facebook you can use to reset this cache: http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug You can use this same tool to further inspect your OpenGraph tags too.

I have tried to turn off OpenGraph in Yoast SEO plugin, however it seems as we still have a problem with both links and logo/picture.... :slight_frown:

Using the debugger just makes me think that no og:url is present at all.

I'm sorry we still haven't been able to get this fixed. I've even tried recreating these settings on a test site but wasn't able to reproduce the problem. I'm going to ask Vladislav to take another look and pass on the login information to him.

Thank you for the additional explanations and the results. The odd thing is, when I tested just now I was able to use the "Like" button on your page normally - possibly the issue you were getting was due to the Facebook cache. I did reset the Facebook cache for this page (http://forsikringsdebat.dk/tilbud-pa-bilforsikring-tryg-forsikring/ ) using the Facebook Debugger, and the only issue it mentioned was that the og:image was relatively small - other then that, it seemed fine, and the "Like" functionality worked just fine. As for the comment boxes being cut off, perhaps adding something like this to your theme's stylesheet would help fix the issue:

This is a separate issue, and has to do with the server configuration. The plugin will, in fact, share with Facebook your *exact* url, without any of the additional parameters. The artefacts appended to the end of your URL are added by Facebook, and in most cases they're harmless - they're there so it can track the clicks coming from the timeline. However, in this case, your server won't accept URLs longer then about 280ish characters - you can easily test that with a simple test URL. For an example, this URL should work just fine: http://forsikringsdebat.dk/?test=11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111

The only difference between the two is that the broken one has just one character more - I apologize if the example seems trivial, but it's just there to illustrate the point. The best way about it would be to talk with your host and see if it's possible to raise this limit to a bit higher value.

This is actually a server setting, so the best way to fix the issue would be to contact your host and ask them to increase this value for you. This shouldn't be an unreasonable request given the current size, and I'm sure they'll help you with the issue, especially if you explain them the scenario that's triggering the problem.

Indeed, the script they set up can apparently take much more abuse in terms of URL length (I have tested it with longer strings too), so my original assessment was wrong - I assumed it was a server setting. Do you perhaps have some sort of security plugins and/or .htaccess changes active on your site?

I have solved the problem with the long urls :slight_smile:

It wasn't my hosting company but the plugin Better WP Security that had an option denying long urls. I just found it in the settings, turned it off with, and now I can "like" articles and the long urls on facebook are working fine.
