Can't update Defender

Defender won't update and we've been getting wpmudev errors in our logs. I am not the developer so can't tell you what the errors are, but hope you can help me resolve this without the developer.
Getting a download error - Forbidden.

    Hope you are well today. Kindly confirm if the web server has access to modify all files and folders in the wp-content directory. Most likely there is a folder that was created or the Defender plugin was uploaded by a user that does not have the same permissions as the web server.
