Category page editing with upfront

Do have a tutorial, example, documentation etc on editing / styling a category display page ?

i would like to have a masonry display of posts with certain category or categories as well as have an image or text header on the page.

A selectable filter for categories to display or all.

Hope you're doing well today :slight_smile:

To edit archive page you can simply go to any archive page on front end and activate Upfront editor to customize it, however there's no option in Upfront to add masonry effect or category filter.
For something like that you will need to custom develop it or try out plugin like this one to create custom page with such layout.

Sad to hear that upfront does not include a masonry style one of the hottest going on the net.

That plugin seemed interesting until I checked the demo to see what the search engines would see and they would not see jack. Just a page with no posts if you use this plugin. Am I misreading this test ? Should I be using something different to test with? Anyhow need the search engines to find posts for the SEO.

Masonry isn't currently available but we might see it future, depending on how many requests we get for it as it is complex including it as UF element :slight_smile:

It looks like that plugin does indeed has SEO issue, and I found another one https://wordpress.org/plugins/masonry-post-gallery/ that has the same issue as well :slight_frown:

Not sure why this is happening so you might want to check with plugin devs about that and see if they workaround ready for this.

Yeah you are right. This could be good feature request. I've informed our developer about this, they will think about this and if everything goes well this will be included. However please note that this is not quick thing so it'll take lot of time even if they plan to add this. :slight_smile:

You can use other alternatives if the one Predrag provided is not happy with SEO. :slight_smile: Just go to this page, and search with term "Masonry".

I mentioned above a test to do on a page to see what the search bots see. Do you use testing services like that and do you know of a reliable one or two to use?

I did see the results from the above test and also performed the one with the plugin I linked, and as I mentioned same issue happens with that one as well :disappointed:

I haven't used these services before but I tested few other things, like some masonry themes demos and those were reading the content so it looks like the tool is providing correct results.

I want to do this masonry deal, too; came across this thread, equally bummed no quick answer, BUT another google found this WPMUDEV post with some CSS and this appears to work ok.
