Change domain for primary site and a few sub-sites only

Hi,

I have a multisite install with about 25 sites set up as mydomain.com/site1, mydomain.com/site2 and so on. I now want to change the domain for my primary site to mynewdomain.com and I want 3 sub-sites to be mynewdomain.com/site1, mynewdomain.com/site2 (and so on) but the rest to remain under mydomain.com/… as they are today.

What is the best practice to achieve this?

I have the plugins “Domain Mapping” and “Multi-Domains for Multisite” installed.

Thank you in advance!

    Hi Hamren,

You can't change the domain of the primary site. The only way you can do that is to change all references to that in the DB & wp-config.php etc. The primary site is always the primary domain that you used when you installed wordpress.

Also, as noted at the top of the Multi-domains plugin usage guide, it will not work well with a subfolder multisite, it needs ideally to be a subdomain multisite.

You could try using Snapshot plugin to take a snapshot of each subsite. Then restore that site as a new site & blog id on an existing network. Or perhaps try the cloner plugin to clone the existing site into a new site under a different domain. But take notice of the fact that Multi-domains is designed for subdomain multisites.
